“Peaceful” resistance is a lie. Even the title of it is a misnomer. It is not peaceful to protest passively while armed thugs hog tie you & suspend your rights in detention, depriving you of food and water until you are processed.

Take this pattern and apply it to anything. Passive =\= peaceful.

A pedestrian safety action plan, part of the Road Safety Framework 2018, was shelved and we have no direction or ambition on reducing this catastrophic issue.

The pedestrian struck at Robie Street / Veterans Memorial Lane last night, a young woman, has died.
For Immediate Release Halifax Regional Police Media Release 27 January 2025 (6:25 p.m.) Police Investigate Vehicle & Pedestrian Collision At 5:47 p.m., Halifax Regional Police responded to a vehicle & pedestrian collision at Robie Street / Veterans Memorial Lane Halifax. The pedestrian sustained life-threating injuries and has been transported to the hospital. Police received reports that the same vehicle was involved in another collision near Beech Steet / Jubilee Road. The driver, an adult male, has been arrested for Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance. Investigators with Patrol, Accident Investigation Section and Forensic Identification Section are conducting the investigation, which is in the early stages.

The estimated cost has ballooned to $150 million, eclipsing the Cogswell project. For that, we're not getting dedicated bus lanes or separated cycle/pedestrian facilities despite council asking for years – the project remains an anachronistic, sprawling highway scheme in pursuit of car capacity

A new multi-use pathway would be added to the south side of the Bedford Highway and Lady Hammond Road, which would connect to a multi-use path along Africville Road. The Joseph Howe off-ramp and underpass road below the Bedford Highway would be widened by one lane. A slide from a January 28, 2025 presentation by municipal staff to Halifax Council about the Windsor Street Exchange redevelopment. It is titled "functional design opportunities" and has three bullet points: "future proof new structures to allow for active transportation and transit (current recommendation)", "future proof the design to allow for road widening and future transit lanes", "continue to reduce lane widths (within standards) to improve active transportation facilities". A table showing the original 2019 project budget and the current proposed budget. In 2019, the budget was $47 million, split between the municipality, province, federal government, and Port of Halifax. The municipal share was $10.75 million. In 2025, the budget is $150 million, with the municipal share increasing to $53.75 million and a $60 million contribution from Halifax Water.

Early this morning, an autonomous group of New Yorkers reclaimed an F train car, replacing ads with signage reading “A MAN WAS LYNCHED HERE” and Jordan Neely’s name, as a jury deliberates over whether to convict Daniel Penny, Neely’s killer, with his death last May.
