I don’t understand why she didn’t just adapt Whitney, My Love (complimentary to Whitney, My Love)
Yes, let's turn a dark gothic tale of generational trauma and damaged people damaging everyone around them into a long-form ASMR video and label it the "greatest love story of all time", I'm sure it'll play very well in TikTok edits by people who can't read.

NOTHING made me treasure the messy, silly, brain-scratchingly odd turns of phrase 14-yr-old writers use than reading the interchangeable brainless and heartless robotic slop some of them try to pass off as their work
Voice in writing is hard to develop, and harder to justify as a fungible skill in our STEM-crazed society. I've always thought our voice as a writer is our inner voice to ourselves. I hate that we are subcontracting the challenge, and joy, of navigating our human experience to inhuman tech.

It’s 6 November, and you know what that means, don’t you? YES, THAT’S RIGHT. It’s the 156th anniversary of the death of Dante Gabriel Rossetti’s pet wombat

I don't want anyone to starve. I don't care who they voted for. If we live in a world where I decide who gets to live based on whether or not I personally like them, we are fucking lost in the weeds.

That's also Trump's vision of America.

Look! Two of my best friends (@alexandravasti.bsky.social and social media-phobe Raisa Rexer) are writing about the history of lesbian erotica together! They’re so cool! Do I know how to pick em or what?

What are we to make of the sapphic love depicted in early fiction and photography?

Is the work of schooling a credit-taking exercise, apparently modeling the private-sector practice, or is it the last place where we can expect to collaborate and contribute to developing young human beings without being expected to turn the screen over and ask for a tip?

We can talk about curricula, approach, philosophy all we want, but I despair that none of it will mean anything in terms of improving student engagement, interest and outcome, or solving faculty burnout and frustration, until we can lower class sizes and extracurricular burdens and raise salaries.

Y'all, the dead baby joke and shit-talking about ugly people *is in the surviving letters*
I'm sorry but as an eighteenth-centuryist, lol.

Jane Austen would be cancelled on campus if we'd read her letters?

Truly a take only possible from someone who doesn't know the mountains of heinous dirt we have on almost all major writers of the period.

OPUS DEI IS THE SCIENTOLOGY OF CATHOLICISM THEY ARE THE ONLY THING "THE DA VINCI CODE" GOT RIGHT THEY ARE AWFUL AND THEY ARE EVIL AND THEY HAVE ENORMOUS POWER AND THEY ARE INTEGRAL TO TRADFASH CATHOLICISM
BREAKING: Pope Leo XIV is set to effectively disband Opus Dei in the coming weeks.

This would be the most sweeping internal reform of his pontificate — and a dramatic continuation of Pope Francis’s legacy.
NEW: Pope Leo Set To Break Up Opus Dei
If Pope Leo does indeed approves a plan that effectively dissolves Opus Dei’s structure, it would be the most significant internal action of his short pontificate to date.

All we can say is "this shouldn't be happening!!!" - but we can't really say WHY, because almost no-one is brave enough to say "the status quo for undocumented immigrants was exploitative. our immigration system is unjust and non-functional, and these people should have legal protection"

MAGA Catholics are so gross to me. first off, a LOT of these immigrants are Catholic, and the catechism is EXTREMELY CLEAR on the church being one united global body. those people are your family. your loyalty should be to them and not the president!

9 out of 10 US students -- roughly 50 million children -- attend public schools.

Despite RW efforts to frame their efforts as for parents ("parents' rights," "choice"), efforts to defund, deform. amd debilitate public schools is a broadscale attack on children and future generations.
Five Ways the Department of Education Is Upending Public Schools

Educators should look at AI grading of student writing in the same way collective society looked at the potential for human cloning after the arrival of Dolly the sheep, something that is an affront to our humanity and must be rejected completely. There is no rationale to support this.

Teachers are overworked! So let’s pretend that if they use AI, they will save time and then we can hire even fewer of them! Outstanding. Nice work all around.

“It’s as though the modes of thinking intrinsic to the liberal arts have been fracked: excavated from their pedagogical bedrock; processed into generic, blandly adaptable ‘skills’; and then injected back into our curricula and institutions, albeit in a barely recognizable state”
