Rereading my own work to find quotes to pull out for social media marketing makes me want to never make eye contact with another human being again

How do people *do* this?

Happy Hanukkah! Thank you to Chabad of Park Slope for shining light in times of darkness, and showing we will never yield to hate.

Delight from everyone except my 8th grader who was contractually obligated to roll his eyes
thrilled to inform you that in the proud populist tradition of opera, the family production of magic flute at the met includes papageno counting 1, 2, … 6-7… 3

uproarious applause and laughter

Remembering the time an administrator claimed “bad data is better than no data” when teachers complained that the baseline assessment we were being forced to use wasn’t going to provide useful results
a statement like "there is no data" is just nonsensical. What are we trying to quantify and how here? What data analysis are you suggesting we design to create a statistical proof comparing "outcomes" for students in book vs excerpt environments? What outcomes are relevant? Just a wild sentence.

You may know @kvanaren.bsky.social as a talented and award-winning critic but did you know she’s also a skilled broker in rare and hard-to-find jellycats? Cannot recommend her services highly enough

Begging my students yesterday to infuse their personalities into their writing because I’ve spent too much time around chat-gpt’s personality and it sucks.

They then volunteered to protect me when the robot apocalypse hits

Maybe off topic, but if you like sports and romance, have you read the romance novel ONE ON ONE by Jamie Harrow? It’s the most accurate portrayals of sexual harassment in collegiate sports I’ve ever read. I want to shout about this book all the time. Everyone should read it!

4. All the evidence that is not anecdotal here, all the research, supports teacher burnout from too much tech and too many demands, but it keeps coming back to more training. It does provide a voice asking for fewer demands and less tech.

This is maddening.

1. First, we hear from a man who "continues to explore the newest technologies in his sixth-grade science and math classroom, constantly learning and adapting new ways to mix technology with hands-on learning."

He's a "veteran teacher," so no excuses, all you old dogs!

Sex scenes are sonnets. (Usually) pretty short with specific formal constraints and then within that you try your best to make something new and specific and magical

i understand that "tech ceos don't value child development" is like the least surprising statement but the truly astonishing part of this clip for me comes earlier when altman says that chatgpt is a genius so he feels really bad when he asks it questions about stupid things, like parenting
Jimmy Fallon: "And do you use ChatGPT when raising your baby?"

Sam Altman: "I cannot imagine figuring out how to raise a newborn without ChatGPT."

Just look at the little fans of fabric that decorate the hem of this c1820 gown. Each one has been folded by hand with a piped seam around the edge before being stitched into place. With the blur or warp printed fabric it is so striking @metmuseum.org #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

Vellum is so great! It even works for me, the human equivalent of a faraday cage (all forms of tech mysteriously crash out in my presence)
if you're a Mac user and an indie author, vellum.pub is life-saving software for formatting ebooks (and print books) and it's 30% off today

nobody paid me to say this, I just really love Vellum

My unpopular teacher opinion is that I have the most student engagement when I teach the texts I love and am passionate about rather than when I follow my students’ interests

I give them lots of choice at other times, but when I’m guiding the lesson it’s better when I’m into what we’re studying

I want to go back to this excerpt.

What students learn when we talk about ethics but don’t act on them is that we are hypocrites who actually don’t give a damn— and that they shouldn’t give a damn either but should pretend that they do.
