The EOs against transgender people are cruel, horrible, and unconstitutional. I am holding space for all trans people here. I will work to fight these Trump atrocities. People will die if crucial medical and therapeutic care is denied!

A brief recap of the last 10 minutes of ACIP.

Two radical anti-vaxxers who had speaking slots have made wild yet vague claims about alleged harms from HBV vaccine.

ACIP members Meissner and Hibbeln are repeatedly and emphatically demanding evidence for these claims.

They have none.

If new proposals detailed in an FDA memo are put into place, experts told me it would mean the end of annual flu shots. And end of most vaccines for pregnant people. And maybe the end of updates to pneumonia vaccines. And more.

I would like to curse the current administration for giving me so much content for my class this semester: Plagues, Bones, and History (Anthropology)

We discuss relevant news and did I have some craptastic news to share, mostly about vaccines

Damn. My Alma mater….
„CSU—US’s largest public uni system—went all-in with a $17mill partnership with OpenAI. . .CSU unveiled its grand technological gesture just as it proposed slashing $375mill from its budget. While admin cut ribbons on AI, they were cutting faculty positions, academic programs, student services.“
AI is Destroying the University and Learning Itself
Students use AI to write papers, professors use AI to grade them, degrees become meaningless, and tech companies make fortunes. Welcome to the death of higher education.

The ACA tax credits expire on December 31st.

There is still time to extend these life-saving tax credits that help tens of millions of Americans afford health care.

House Republicans: do the right thing and work with Democrats to save health care.

The people who are trying to destroy universities when it comes to inclusion around race and gender are also opposed to inclusion around disability. This bullshit gives them cover. Once again, legacy media laundering far right complaints because it makes elites feel smug.
The administration is extorting universities for billions of dollars and attempting to destroy free speech, academic freedom, and independent thought but the Atlantic talked to a few professors at elite universities who think the problem is that some students need a little extra time on exams

Observance of World AIDS Day started in 1988. The US President didn’t issue an official proclamation for it until 1993.

We’ll mark the day this year regardless of what the goons in the White House do. And we won’t forget that their cuts to PEPFAR and medical research are deadly.

This is variable. Tuesday before THXGVG, my 100 level class had a great turnout! I was honestly expecting maybe 20, even 15. They came to have a discussion about vaccination and the social contract - they are great students.
We're seeing possibly the worst attendance in history. Even in creative writing classes, where students generally want to participate and have their voice heard--they're not showing up, ignoring guidelines and feedback, and either describing expectations as "unclear" or simply refusing to comply.

Brazil approves the first vaccine against dengue. The disease killed 6000 Brazilians in 2024.

This is a really remarkable achievement. I got dengue in 2015, and even with the mild case I had, it was a really miserable experience.

you can immediately clock WKRP fans just by seeing whose face lights up with these 10 little words: "As God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly."
“WKRP In Cincinnati” premieres 47 years ago today — a show that creator Hugh Wilson based on radio staff he knew from his days in advertising.

“Every call letter that I ran through my mind was already taken,” he said. “I think WKRP was not taken because it can be said that it spells ‘crap.'”

This is horrible - these are dissertation grants for PhD students, who have few options to get funding for research.
The NSF Bio Anthro Program DDRIG, Cultural Anthrpology DDRIG, and Archaeology DDRIG have all been archived (as of yesterday afternoon). Please speak with your grad students and plan accordingly. To say I am angry and depressed about this is an understatement.

Reminded of a party I hosted where an acquaintance left early and took what was left of the food she brought with her. No confrontation, just... she took it.

Been 15 years and we all still laugh about it.
one of my uncles is banned from thanksgiving after he brought a giant spread of artisanal cheese, engaged in a planned confrontation with my cousins who were hosting and called them assholes, and then left and TOOK THE CHEESE AWAY
