I'm not sure how you believe in the above verses, as I do, and don't believe that all humans are, as those created in the image of God, worth ultimate love and protection, regardless of gender, race, or origin.

I've emailed some obvious organizations but do y'all have any recommendations for supporters of math research infrastructure (software, databases, communities) that would have a water bottle or something and might want their name out there?
code4math.org will be at the Joint Math Meetings in Washington D.C.!

More info to be shared soon, but a request: do you have any swag for your open source math research infrastructure project that you'd be willing to donate towards a raffle prize? Email steven@clontz.org to connect with us!

One of my favorite expressions to try out on people was "How's tricks?". Maybe 25% of them recognize it as "how's it going" and the other 75% of the time it usually sparks a funny bit where I have to defend its existence as an actual turn of phrase. (Cough, @chrissysafranski.bsky.social )

"tomorrow afternoon" is now "in about 80 minutes"! See you there!
These @code4math.org Zoom Convenings have been so much fun this year, and tomorrow won't be any different. Join our open community of mathematicians (defined broadly) tomorrow afternoon to ponder Math in the Age of Social Media! Info at scholarlattice.org/events/b332b...

I resigned from reviewing for MathSciNet a couple years ago when they refused my request to open license my future reviews.

As of today, I'm a reviewer for zbMATH.org Open! While the licensing is not as clear as I'd like, I very much appreciate that its content is Open Access by design.

I think it's ironic that such a common error by LLMs could be caught automatically by a few "if" statements before it gets to a reviewer.

(Obviously such a flag should be considered by a human editor. But in 2025 it's so easy to check if a paper *exists*...)
it finally happened to me -- reviewing a manuscript that cites a paper by me that doesn't exist

It takes a while to get things in the Notices, so maybe you should write a post on one of the AMS blogs.

Oh, wait.

Hey where should I be sending @code4math.org and @mathtech.org updates so folks not on here see them? I keep forgetting MAA Connect is a thing. What else?

Showed this to family at breakfast and said "this brings new meaning to the phrase beer belly".

Obviously, they erupted in side-splitting laughter. Patrons at the table next to us lifted me onto their shoulders. The crowd's slow clap built into uproarious applause, coronating me King of Dad Jokes.

Something I love about the UMC logo, which I've heard repeatedly from clergy and others who've served in Africa and the Philippines is that it has power.

It's recognized in disaster relief settings. It carries some weight and respect.
Next, cause I was raised in Methodism, is the United Methodist cross-and-flame. This rocks. It’s so distinctive and sharp. It makes you want to sing “Come, Holy Ghost, Our Hearts Inspire.”

As a guy silly enough to want to believe in institutions and due process, it's been a rough time recently.

But as a guy with great family and friends, it could certainly be much worse.
