I would put more money on continuing to harvest infinite energy from the sun over assuming that forcing everyone to use The Machine The Lies To You is the steady basis of an entire economy
A fun question. In 5 years time, what looks better? The US’s enormous bet & capex on AI? Or China’s equally enormous bet and capex on renewables?
China has made cheap, clean energy available in huge quantities. The world should take the win econ.st/4oqFszB

Important takeaway -- the young men vote is still up for grabs as solid majorities of young men voted blue last night. Equally important, though, are the HUGE margins Dems won among Gen Z women. 8 in 10 young women voted for Spanberger & Sherill. That part of the story is still often undertold.

An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

The "market forces will transition energy" claims continue to leave me waiting
China has exported $120 billion in green technology for the year-to-date. The US, which has positioned itself as a major fossil fuel exporter, has only sold $80 billion in oil and gas abroad.
China Is Beating the US in the Battle for Energy Export Dominance
China’s exports of clean energy technology hit a record in August, with $20 billion shipped globally.

Geothermal is NOT my area of energy expertise, so genuinely asking what does the efficacy look like of additional tunneling vs just capturing the existing over-heat for removal that also delivers surplus thermal generation? #climate #NYC #geothermal #energy

Though AI’s seemingly insatiable hunger for electricity is only exacerbating energy demands, relatively simple applications of AI with internet of things tools can play a key role in curbing this disruption, as well as social and ecological damage, Trevor Gamble-Borsh writes.
Smarter Grids Emerge as a Solution for AI and Green Energy Needs | TechPolicy.Press
As increased demand leads to skyrocketing energy bills, government officials are looking to improve grid efficiencies, Trevor Gamble-Borsh writes.

More and more people reporting today that Stripe - the payment processor that Itch said were putting the most pressure on them - now have staff actively confirming that yes, they are censoring LGBT content, adult or otherwise. That this is official company policy.

This seems kinda significant.
