[1/6] A reminder: Europe has cards to use against the US. Lots of them.

To cite some examples:

- Tighten screws on US digital giants (taxes, fines, even bans)
- Export taxes disrupting US supply chains eg pharma
- Exclude US firms from European procurement, inc defence

BREAKING: A full-scale airlift is running around the clock, transporting troops and military equipment to Greenland.
The operation is extensive, “beyond anything we’ve tried before,” a source tells DR. Danish F-35 fighter planes and warships from European allies involved.

[6/6] Many of these would carry costs for Europe (to varying degrees explored in the paper). But showing its willingness to use its cards is Europe's best hope of deterring Trump. The impression of helplessness seems only to encourage him - and store up a yet-bigger showdown for the future.

The inspiration for Europe should no longer be Turnberry which is now a proven failure.

But Jerome Powell, who stood up to coercion in a principled way, and pushed back effectively.
The only way to stop the spiral is to hit the US hard with escalating economic weapons from Europes side.

The goal is to raise political costs for Trumps imperial project. Europe can win this game of chicken as there’s real opposition in the US to this Trump hobby.
Tariffs would undermine transatlantic relations and risk a dangerous downward spiral. Europe will remain united, coordinated, and committed to upholding its sovereignty.

• Red State Texas has about 2.1 million undocumented immigrants

• Red State Florida has 1.6 M undocumented immigrants

• Blue State Minnesota has 130,000.

And yet only Minnesota is being occupied by masked thugs over "immigration."

It's *not* about immigration.

Everything Trump says here is verifiably untrue. During this period of time the number of US installations on Greenland went from 17 to 1 as a result of US determinations that they were not needed.
Trump: "NATO has been telling Denmark, for 20 years, that “you have to get the Russian threat away from Greenland.” Unfortunately, Denmark has been unable to do anything about it. Now it is time, and it will be done!!! President Donald J. Trump"

I'm starting to think that, until he's finally gone, I should repost on a daily basis this 11,000+ word piece I published in @theatlantic.com about Donald Trump's serious psychiatric disorders to explain why, as a legal and constitutional matter, he was unfit for the presidency.
In the six-plus years since, every mental health professional I have come across has told me that my essay had it exactly right. I think every word of it has been proven right many times over.

Even today, he's still only going to get worse.

Donald Trump’s narcissism makes it impossible for him to carry out the duties of the presidency in the way the Constitution requires.

This is darkly funny. But part of the problem with Donald Trump is that this is how people have dealt with him for the past 75-plus years.

Long story short (and friends in Europe, please take note):

This approach DOES NOT WORK.

It’s exactly what Bill Cassidy M.D. deserves. He earned this.

Maybe lose & spend the rest of his life thinking about all the children who died from measles because he was to corrupt to stop Kennedy’s confirmation.
Trump throws a dagger into the Louisiana Senate race, pushing Rep. Julia Letlow to challenge Sen. Bill Cassidy, who has worked hard to stay on Trump’s good side.

Bill Cassidy M.D. could’ve prevented the psychopath Kennedy from being confirmed, instead he helped him get the votes. Hope he loses his seat. She’s probably a total nutcase but Cassidy is a spineless sycophant so it’s a race to the bottom.
I'm sure Letlow is a complete psychopath but there aren't too many people out there who deserve to lose everything more than Bill Cassidy does

Photo by Pierre Lavie. Yes this is me. And I threw my Leica. It landed on the bass plate with hardly a scratch. Another Photographer grabbed it along with my phone and I was able to track him later. I was held face down tear gas deployed right in front of me and pepper sprayed directly into the eye.
