I don’t see any way in which social media was not a net geopolitical boon for autocracies, yeah. They can flood our information space with industrial scale bullshit, augmenting the already trust-eroding properties of social media and just block the shit at home. It’s extremely bad.

It’s that fucking airplane meme and I’m sorry but it’s a massive blind spot among a certain kind of person on the left. You only remember the protests that “won”. It’s common for protestors to eat shit and lose both short and long term.
I think the core problem here is that “the protests of the 1960s” cover everything from MLK to the Weathermen, some succeeded, some failed miserably, and all except the right wing ones failed to fully consolidate whatever gains were won because the hoes got scared and elected Nixon.
People have absolutely no idea what protests were like in the 60s

the purpose of a protest is to demonstrate that those in power are holding power through violence rather than consent

the cop in this picture is losing and the kids getting pepper sprayed are winning and if, instead, the kids beat the cop to death it would be a catastrophic loss.

if you cannot see that, go home.

This is what art at a certain skill level feels like
I'm a good worker in that I get very emotionally invested in the work product that I'm making, even when I know I shouldn't care. I'm a bad worker in that I'm not actually good at things. So I won't hit the goals you give me, but you can rest easy knowing I feel terrible about it.

I've received 100+ replies like this, claiming game revenue goes directly to executives & shareholders. So I checked & made this chart.

This is what happens when you buy a $69.99 game from EA, the company with the WORST reputation in the industry.

0.8% goes to c-suite. 53% goes to devs & workers.

I think the difficulty comes from how the non-political stuff I follow on twitter feels actually insightful and thought provoking but everything I follow on bsky is just like "yeah, that's correct" lol
May 17, 2025 at 8:58 PM
It's hard acclimating to bsky simply because bsky has smart criticism of dems that I fully am on board with whereas twitter is still at the level of "how were we supposed to know that Trump would be worse than kkkopmala?" and detoxing from the ragebait is tough.

And both get far, far less coverage than “Trump and Musk pull aid to Africa, estimated death toll of over 20 million” because no South Sudanese refugee ever invited Jake Tapper to a cocktail party.
“Presidents former staffers describe him as a fascist threat” got 1/20th of the coverage of “Harvard president incorrect citations” and 1/1000th of the coverage of “Biden old”

There is not nearly enough talk about the fact that DOGE is gonna have a death toll in Africa that rivals the Holocaust.

Just take essential oils. Just ignore seed oils. Just don’t get vaccinated. Just have a Strong Leader who will Be Strong. We think of cranks as being co-opted by authoritarians, but I think it’s more the people with that tendency coming home to their natural political place.

Actually did a quesadilla night with the housemates where I made both red and green salsa and whipped together some sriracha mayo and yeah the chipotle marinade slaps so hard that it was an easy success (I will get addicted to quesadillas)

Been branching out more into other stuff, recently we did kimchi/gochujang type stuff and then mexican style things after (if you make burritos/quesadillas just get some chipotle adobo sauce [super cheap] and marinate them a little bit and it's such an easy level up)

Forming a theory on right wingers where they're so invested in scams/schemes (crypto, etc.) that they see the process of developing a city as a "scam" (earliest people get the most value, you need to get people to move there + provide value) and are devoted to not "fall for it"

Feels just like a funny situation where we want our machines and tools to be sensitive to incoming data but we want our people to be mindless unfeeling automatons lol no wonder AI is evolving in the way it is and taking all the creative shit first, it's because probably as a species we undervalue it
April 15, 2025 at 10:31 PM
Often times "he/she is sensitive to queer issues" (for example) gives the impression that you have to walk on eggshells around them when like being sensitive to issues typically exists at an intersection between knowledge and scale/attention (where you are looking). "Stop being so sensitive" etc.
April 15, 2025 at 10:31 PM
I've been thinking recently that I don't like how people view sensitivity. Some of the most sensitive people are right-wingers (just mention LGBT around them lmao) and yet it is used in a sense similar to the attached meme. I hardly ever see it used in good contexts.

Idk I'm just noticing more and more areas where the end goal (going outside, socializing) is seen as a step *to* getting over it when really it's a way to tell where someone is at. It's like the indicators of success, people use them as a shortcut and it ruins the signaling.
