AliExpress are scammers .... they send me an email featuring a desktop computer for $45; click on it to find the actual price is $284

They all have cell phones which means they have access to an open sewer of misinformation, more like.

I didn't like it to start with, but you get used to it

Youtube music seems to have been overrun with AI slop.

I often have it going when I am working. Lately every 5th track seems to be AI.

I really wish clippy had an option to filter out complaints about code not touched in the index or something like that.

It's giving a load of lints in unmodified files which presumably passed master in an early version. While they might need fixing I don't want those changes mixed in.

Unfortunately it has been entangled in the political backlash against "woke".

Some perceive the rust community to be "too tolerant" of various minorities.

Others seem to think having a compiler that stops you from misusing memory amounts to a violation of their right to bear arms.

I've seen a lot of news lately about artists authors etc lobbying for regulations around AI being trained on their work. But no-one seems to bat an eyelid about it being trained on the whole of GitHub.

What's the purpose of this???

Even the briefest of searches on this Magika tool reveals that it's primary use case is for detecting malicious files that might have content contrary to its filename.

This Lunduke "Journal" feed is full of terrible takes.

It's cloud speak.

"We're a community of selfish bastards here. Everyone looks out for themselves."

That's not the story people want to hear. Sub editors know they have to write headlines that will get attention. Old fashioned click bait really.

I don't think the designers of vs code have gotten their heads around the concept of "permanently"

Probably should cap it at $3m (indexed) full stop. People with balances above that level don't need help saving for their retirement.

Why do centre-left politicians post on X? Under both these tweets there are nothing but hate filled negative replies from MAGAs and (probably) bots. Why try to push positive messages into that environment?
May 19, 2025 at 8:35 AM
Absolutely, and thats the basis to attack it. And the hearsay ... "a friend of Elon's friend says the hospital is getting ripped off" I mean who takes that seriously?

Look around yourself. Decay everywhere.

Not a great example - that post is a commentary on corruption rather than the street cost of bread. It can be simultaneously true that a health authority enters into a corrupt agreement and that the local cost of bread is <$1

Am I correct in thinking that the AI has to read all that before it even starts on my input?
May 16, 2025 at 11:34 AM
Got to be a windup, surely
May 16, 2025 at 12:28 AM
Why?

I do hope they do a better job of explaining and justifying their compromises though. Eg. on gambling ads, I am yet to hear an explanation for their timidity that satisfies me.

I think they are going to cement themselves in the centre. Albo has said he wants Labor to be the natural party of govt, which up until now has unfortunately been the Coalition.

That is for sure going to leave some people feeling let down on many issues.

Democracy requires pragmatic comprimise.

“The bill aims to protect children under 16, but Google Wallet is primarily an adult-oriented service that most children don’t have access to”

Surely it is the adults that have to prove that they are old enough, not the children that have to prove they are not?

Proposed system of storing passports or drivers licences in Google Wallet app likely to benefit adults, but usefulness in identifying teenagers without ID documents unclear

In space, Venus flanks Earth on the left, with a hellfire greenhouse effect. Mars on the right, which long ago had running water. Today, it's bone dry. Something bad happened on each planet.

Seems like the wrong time to limit the Nation’s capacity to conduct climate research.
