Last week, I sat down with @enhance-experience.com to discuss the development of Lumines Arise and the 'Kondo' philosophy that informs every meticulous design decision at the Japanese studio.
P.S. I've played a huge amount of Arise and it is, as you might expect, an absolute banger.

Just learned that Creature Comforts Brewing has closed their downtown LA location aka the brewery at Summer Game Fest Play Days. Really glad that @iam8bit.com gave me my shot to be in there with my former jerb this past June. We had a blast and the CCB staff were awesome.

TRON: ARES was a good TRON movie. Yes, Leto is weird but the movie looked and sounded great and tied in well with the ones that have come before it. Immediately after viewing, I turned on the NIN soundtrack in my helmet comms, jumped on my motorcycle and cut off a cybertruck. The future is now.

Death by SEO
If you think you know why US newspapers died, this feature documentary now streaming for free on PBS might surprise you. It wasn't the Internet. Newspapers were specifically targeted by vulture capitalists.
I composed the score for the film, which features electric cello & Crowfoot guitars.

This made me cackle volubly the first time I came across it and continues to delight me each and every time afterwards
I need to talk to whoever at @suckerpunchprod.bsky.social decided that, rather than use the yellow paint gamers always complain about, they instead highlight climbable surfaces with bird shit, and if this was a calculated decision.

If you're disgusted by all media outlets redirecting their coverage efforts toward Prime Day, please ask the human race to stop clicking on keyboard deals and start clicking on journalism instead. I promise you everyone wants to be doing the latter.

Going to see Turnstile / Amyl & the Sniffers / other hardcore bands in SF tonight. Hoping that I do not get pepper sprayed or have my phone stolen or get dragged into the pit by my 23 year old son. Much less pearl-clutching anxiety over the Miki Beryeni show with my daughter later in the month.

I quit two pieces of gamified software yesterday: Peloton and Silksong. One was good for my health but became too expensive, the other was ridiculously cheap but stressing me out. Ghost of Yōtei slid nicely into the game slot, now I need a new home workout.

This right here. This is the games industry in 2025 and beyond, perfectly summarized.
It'll never get less crowded too.
Spending less on development to reach a smaller, potentially more enduring audience is the only way forward.
The economics of spending hundreds of millions of dollars over years for a product competing with stuff like Balatro has simply never, ever made sense.
