Matt Taibbi once mocked me for swearing at rich people.

'the UK creative industries — which contributed £125 billion to the economy in 2024 and supported 2.4 million jobs — are being destroyed by an AI sector that... contributed just £11 billion in the same year and supported only 85,000 jobs." www.thetimes.com/culture/film...

A new report into the impact of AI on the creative sector makes for apocalyptic reading. The government must act now

So a Booz Allen guy named Littlejohn was screwing with the rich folks? I love it when the literature of my childhood comes to life. #Robinhood #MerryMen

We keep it exactly like this because we don’t want you here. Any of ya. I don’t know how we can make this clearer.

Save yourself four hours of Felger & Mazz tomorrow. This pretty much sums it up.
There’s a lot of focus on the fact that the Red Sox alienated Rafael Devers with the Alex Bregman signing only to then not re-sign Alex Bregman after one year.

But let’s not forget that they also traded the only real prospect they got in the Devers trade for five starts of Dustin May.

I worked in a newsroom where every wastebasket had a printed warning reminding you not to throw your cigarette butts in the trash.
Without revealing your actual age, what's something you remember that if you told a younger person they wouldn't understand?

The absolute best way to learn something is to repeat it over and over and over again. History, for example.

Has anyone yet figured a way to wholesale block or mute accounts that post screenshots from other social platforms here? Cuz doing it manually one dork at a time is exhausting at this point.

We used to have a rule back in the old-timey newspaper days: Don’t report on a lawsuit until a party actually files suit. It was a pretty good rule.

This is a terrific thread. Rachel knows stuff.
I've been writing seriously for over 20 years now, and while I have not gotten better at not making mistakes, I *have* gotten better at spotting them.

Nantucket used to be a pretty chill place inhabited mostly by stocky, old Portuguese fishermen and organic farmers trying to start microbreweries. But a couple of decades of trust-fund douchenozzles and VC weirdos and you end up with this hilarious nonsense.

I work for an agency that routinely has to rescue perfectly healthy adults who cannot right a capsized plastic kayak in relatively calm seas. This sounds like an assessment from a guy from a landlocked state who’s never seen a boat or an ocean.
Q: What did you see in the second strike?

Cotton: "I saw two survivors trying to flip a boat -- loaded with drugs, bound for the United States -- back over, so they could stay in the fight."

Man, this exponentially expanding roster of shit we’re being told we all, personally and individually, “must stop” is fucking exhausting already. Like hundreds of issues we’re all somehow responsible for now. Anybody keeping a prioritized list?

Dear people who’ve never worked in journalism but think they know how journalists should behave: We’re not there to argue with sources or “call them out.” We don’t give a shit about their manners or what names we’re called. We’re there to get a question in, get a quote, then GTFO and GBTW. -30-
