Very excited to read the news of "Choosin' Texas" hitting No. 1 and immediately be greeted by a @marissarmoss.bsky.social piece about What It All Means
Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” is a Phenomenon: Will It Change the Landscape for Women?

my opinion on the Bad Bunny halftime show, and non-English music in general, is that i think a need to “be able to understand the lyrics” displays an embarrassing shallowness of the speaker to appreciate the voice as an instrument & to appreciate music as something other than a lyric delivery system

Jacob Tierney writing Wolf Parade into the DNA of Heated Rivalry struck me as a nostalgic return to Hollywood's post-O.C. era

I'm hardly the first person to note this, but it's enormously instructive that our President and his followers saw the message "THE ONLY THING MORE POWERFUL THAN HATE IS LOVE" and understood it, correctly, as an attack on them
What a moment.

The new Ratboys joint is easily my favorite album of the year thus far, and I had a great time talking to Julia Steiner about every song on the record.
Ratboys' 'Singin' To An Empty Chair': The Story Behind Every Song
Every Ratboys album is good. The Chicago indie rockers have been in the game for six albums and 16 years, and they’ve only gotten better at their sound, which carries echoes of emo and pop-punk and al...

There's a grim irony to the LA Times breaking this story about Karen Bass' inexcusable alterations to the Palisades fire reports, on the same day as the WaPo cuts.

It’s a case study for why cities need healthy newspapers staffed by well-sourced and experienced Metro reporters.
Sources tell the LA Times that Mayor Karen Bass directed changes to the Palisades fire after-action report that softened criticism of the city’s response — contradicting her public statements.
Bass directed watering down of Palisades fire after-action report, sources say
One Bass confidant told a source that 'the mayor didn’t tell the truth when she said she had nothing to do with changing the report.'

Bezos has the resources to make WaPo into the BEST sports outlet and BEST science outlet and BEST place to get trusted news without feeling any sort of negative financial impact but is happy to turn it into Quillette because he’s lost whatever creative spark he had and turned into a vapid dullard
Video call: WaPo Executive Editor Matt Murray says the paper plans to lay off hundreds of staff, cutting into its local, international, and sports coverage (New York Times)

Just finished the audible of this. Really excellent overview; lines up with how I remember a lot of it and shades in stuff that seemed peripheral to me at the time. Neat companion to the @lizpelly.bsky.social Spotify book; one tracks explosion of taste the other tracks forces sending taste to 0.
