Ah, New Year’s Day! That can only mean one thing. YES, THAT’S RIGHT! The 148th anniversary of New York Herald proprietor James Gordon Bennett Jr being banished from polite society for pissing in his fiancée’s fireplace, thus giving the world the phrase ‘Gordon Bennett!’ 🧵

It’s also misleading because a formal
diagnosis is not needed in law for a child to have SEND - needing provision which is additional to/different from.
I’m really surprised by this headline from The Sutton Trust. Children don’t get diagnosed with SEND. SEND is about provision. Children get diagnosed with ASD/ADHD/dyslexia/DLD etc which MAY lead to them having SEND.
🚨 Wide gaps in waiting times for a SEND diagnosis by socio-economic background 🚨

Middle-class parents have shorter waiting times for formal SEND diagnoses than working-class parents, we have found.

It's quite an experiment to have a government run by the dumbest people on the planet.
Over on Xitter the Attorney General is pointing to a study that only goes through last year to claim she's fixed the fentanyl crisis.

The DfE is actually a good example of the problems with this government because they're basically the same as before but with minor tweaks like adding *more* tests and ridiculous targets and letting Ofsted get even *worse*. 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

I was reflecting on aspects of school life when I was a headteacher and recalled one of our training days. The experience was designed to stimulate thinking, talking and developing the skills with ICT, using new kit.

This is a very good point. I love that our preschool children can just play in the local fields and woods. #EduSky
The commodification of play is a scandal. Indoor play areas that have to be driven to, soft play, trampoline parks, expensive 'experiences' that have to be booked & organised, & attended by adults for the duration.
When all kids actually need is green space and a safe way to get to it.
parent eventually drives child to park for the always exciting pre-organized play date.
