America really does have a five‑alarm fire in the White House: a president who openly says the only authority that can stop him is “my own morality. My own mind,” while standing on a record of criminal convictions, financial scams, and armed resource grabs abroad

X is literally making child porn as a service so there really shouldn't be a question to whether or not MPs leave. Bellingcat has.
EXCLUSIVE: Leaked WhatsApp messages show Labour MPs urging govt to leave X, arguing that it should "show direction to others in the UK"

The MPs said X owner Elon Musk is "fascist" and that the platform's AI tool, Grok, had put "children in harm's way"

This is absolutely insane - and absolutely terrifying.

very disappointing.

There is a code of conduct for Royal Society fellows - it's not a value judgement to say that Musk has contravened it!

see relevant bits of code and the Royal Society stated values below.

In light of the Royal Society's continued inaction on Elon Musk, it seems appropriate to share this again.

I wrote it last March when I resigned my position as associate editor at a Royal Society Journal.

Things haven't got better since then.
Why I’m resigning my editorship at a Royal Society journal
It’s time to take a stand, small as it may be, and to distance myself from the Royal Society

Plans to ban "nudify" websites? That's the whack-a-mole method Chi Onwurah was deriding - wait for something else we hadn't though of to pop up and spend a year legislating to ban it.

(By "the internet", you presumably mean the web and things built on it.)

Just a thought...

The government should tell us that they are in control of immigration, and promise to control it better for the benefit of the country, which would mean more of it, but better planning and less idiotic cruelty.

The immigration doom loop in full swing.

Chasing the xenophobes is a doomed strategy both economically *and* politically.

For some reason I've been thinking about family businesses (farms or otherwise) and inheritance tax.

If people get themselves organised, the only people who'll pay any tax will be those whose parents die early.

How can Starmer and Reeves think this mess was worth it?

Great piece by my Cato colleague. “Since July, immigration agents have shot at least six people behind the wheel of a vehicle. The same playbook is used each time: the agent says they “feared for their life” as a vehicle was “weaponized” against them. Juries should decide, but we tie their hands.
Opinion | Renee Good wasn’t the first person shot in her car by ICE. The justification followed a familiar script.
Mike Fox: The officer who shot and killed a woman in Minneapolis might never have to defend his actions before a judge or jury.
