All my life, I dreamed of writing a book. When I was little, I would go to the library and look up at the stacks of books and think about being one of the names up there. This year, the wish came true: Not one, but ELEVEN new books. So awesome. Let me tell you about them. (1/16) #booksky

It’s hard to know if people outside MN understand how much of life is grinding to a halt here because of Trump’s occupation. Schools have shut down, businesses are scaling back hours or closing because their employees aren’t safe. The whole city is weighted down.

The decision has been made to break an American city. It is an experiment. We must do all we can (legally) to help Minneapolis hold on.
if you want to know what it is like in minneapolis, I don’t even have to scroll on facebook to find a horror story. it’s basically my whole feed.

everyone i know in minneapolis is seeing ICE take people—at gas stations, taquerias, bus stops, schools. just snatching random people.

Not an exaggeration at all to say that the feeling in Minneapolis is that the entire metro area is being treated as occupied territory by federal agents. Impossible to overstate how overwhelmingly people here do not like it. This does not feel sustainable.

We evacuated our kids out of Minneapolis this weekend and my spouse reports that as she drove them out of town she saw "multiple freeway exits where people are being pulled over." It feels like the Twin Cities is being subjugated by a hostile occupying force.

Naming a police officer is not doxxing. We aren’t supposed to have secret police in America.

We need to hear this from every single Democrat. If they don't all say this, then what are we doing?
Swalwell to @gregsargent.bsky.social: "I’m not voting to fund this ICE. I support getting rid of their immunity. I support requiring them to take off the masks ... This ICE is not what anybody asked for, and I’m not going to vote to continue it."

I've seen people say that the officer who murdered Nicole Good should be charged with murder, and to that I add that every officer who kept medics from arriving, who barred doctors from helping should also be charged under conspiracy doctrine.

This doesn't really seem to be likely to apply to me, but since my second try got the word "enfeebled" I will happily take this.

Okay, might as well get this started.

It's January 1, which means, as I'm sure you all know, that there's a whole new bunch of characters who have entered the public domain. This time around, it's characters created in 1930.

The following is a list of pulp & pulpy characters now in the p.d.

This is true and I was the only one on set excited about it (and playing the song on my phone to blank stares)
Just watched the new Knives Out and I think it's really important you know that the scene in the Seminary's Gym is filmed in the same place Rick Astley filmed the music video for Never Gonna Give You Up.

I saw the window tracery and immediately made my friends pause the film so I could tell them.

The album gathers home and live recordings made between the 1950s and 1970s, capturing a lifetime immersed in traditional song and the folk revival. “Golden Apples” is a special song for Ellen, putting music to a W.B. Yeats poem in an arrangement she learned from fellow folk singer Dave Van Ronk.
