Great to be in Brighton today and listen to ideas for supporting businesses here. I want to draw Sussex together and make it a place to do business.

Got a business based in Sussex? I'd love to hear how we could support you and grow our economy. Email me at: ben.dempsey@sussexlibdems.org.uk

We have to stand up for our British institutions like the BBC.

There is a reason people like President Trump and Nigel Farage want to bring the BBC down.

That would make it easier for them to spread their misinformation unchallenged.
🎯 Davey is spot on. "We can have criticism of the BBC, but within that, we need to recognise how valuable an institution it is [and how] precious to our country. And that's one of the reasons why people like President Trump and Nigel Farage, want to undermine the BBC." 👏🏽~AA

Liberal Democrats won’t stop fighting to end the sewage scandal.

Great to join Jess Brown-Fuller MP in Chichester. She's delivering for West Sussex on fighting to stop sewage dumps, the local hospital, and the cost of living. With five Lib Dem MPs working hard in their communities, we have the positive momentum to stop Reform UK's divisive politics across Sussex

Samir Zitouni and Stephen Crean are heroes who saved lives. They showed the best of Britain: putting themselves in harm's way to protect others.

They both deserve the George Cross in recognition of their incredible bravery.

Today the Petworth Literary Festival featured @eddavey.libdems.org.uk talking about his book “Why I Care”, discussing his experience as a family carer.
Everyone will need health care and social care at some point in our lives. It’s too important to ignore!

On 7 May 2026, Mayoral elections will take place in Sussex for the new strategic authority. Should the delayed County Council elections also take place, or be cancelled again?
Liberal Democrat mayoral candidate Ben Dempsey thinks County elections should go ahead.

Chichester’s St Wilfrid’s hospice provides end-of-life and palliative care but receives inadequate funding from government to meet the demand for its beds. Hospice care is in crisis.
With support from Lib Dem colleagues, I've urged the Health Secretary to urgently address the hospice care crisis.

We can't accept a diminishing service where care is rationed and fundraising lags.

Thousands need relief, and we must do better.

Chris Philp failed FIVE times to call out Reform MP Sarah Pochin’s blatantly racist comments.

The Conservatives are too scared of Reform to call out this racism for what it is.

Liberal Democrats will always call out racism and stand up for a decent, tolerant Britain.

Good question from @willforster.bsky.social, and relevant to local elections to West Sussex County Council, which were cancelled in May 2025.
The PM’s answer indicates that elections in Surrey will be cancelled again. Will elections take place to WSCC in May 2026, or will they be cancelled again?
The Prime Minister should tell voters whether their elections will be delayed by another year, not dodge the question.

Democracy delayed is democracy denied.

Health and Social Care are two parts of the same government function.
New research shows GP waits are at a record high. Waiting weeks to see a doctor shouldn’t be the norm.
