Got to feel sorry for the political sub-eds who smashed out a lazy article on Starmer and a coup and slipped out for a two bottle lunch.

"Asked if people could be deported even if they had a UK national spouse or children, a [Tory spox] said: 'Let me come back to you on that.' The Conservative party was contacted for further comment."
A mother with settled status whose child is disabled. The father is British by birth. They have received DLA for the child. A Tory government would deport her?

I'd really like any Conservative who has ever talked about the "party of the family" to explain why this is the right thing to do.
A policy this expansive would certainly mean mass stripping of permanent residence status from people with ILR (including pensioners and parents of British children) on a scale far beyond anything any democracy has ever done before. There is no public support for such an extreme policy.

Draft Tory legislation on removing indefinite leave to remain is insane.

Would chuck out those not earning over £38K - including many pensioners!

+ social protections seems to include child benefit, so load of people with (British!) kids!

They'd remove my sis & mum who've been here 50 years.

I am a dialysis patient at a fairly large unit. This would get rid of all but ONE of my highly trained and highly skilled nurses. Renal training for nurses takes time as it is a specialist skill not taught to nurses as part of normal training.

I suspect other specialist units would the same problem

Absolutely 100% agree with this. Racism thrives because racists interpret the silence of others as tacit agreement. No child is born a racist; they learn it from hearing it unchallenged.
It is incumbent on all of us to intervene if we witness something like this. The more that people get away with it the bolder they become.

A sentence that really builds momentum.
A judge in Louisiana has ordered the return of electronics belonging to an ex-Roman Catholic priest who pleaded guilty to obscenity for being caught having sex with two dominatrices atop a church altar while still belonging to the clergy in 2020. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

Hello, I'm an anaesthetist/intensivist in a film. I am only ever seen taking orders from a surgeon, have no speaking part, and am cast in order for someone to get an Equity card.
Hello, I’m a cardiologist in a film. I’m a dick.
Hello, I'm an epidemiologist in film. I'm a socially awkward loner working obsessively to collect & analyse data that will prove why 'the government' or some other 'experts' are wrong about a new disease.

There's a 90% chance that I will catch the disease & die before everyone realises I'm right.

Catastrophising leaves a lot of room for fascism to arrive.
I have said this before but I find the constant British catastrophizing really quite worrying. Yes there are big problems. But
Terminal decline?
Everything falling apart?
Hopelessly broken?

I find this attitude frightening.

What an appalling waste, all preventable.

Until recently forgoing vaccination has been largely without consequence as most people do the right thing.

Now we have a critical mass of unvaccinated people and these infections are a real threat again maybe people will start to reconsider.
So far this year there have been 529 confirmed cases, with 109 in the month to July 3. The majority, 357, were in children under ten.
🚨 EXCLUSIVE: A child has died after contracting measles in Liverpool, where public health officials fear a growing outbreak of the disease.

Theseus' Paradox is all well and good but you missed an opportunity for a Fools and Horses Reference.

(it's a great editorial)
Editorial: Rapid sequence induction: a modern-day example of Theseus' Paradox?

Stept and Safar described ‘rapid induction/intubation’ in 1970.

PUMA recently issued a consensus statement on RSI.

Let's compare.

Truths:

1. Any ship can be a minesweeper once.

2. Any machine can be a smoke machine if operated badly enough.

and, thanks to Middlesbrough council's lack of sweeping of cycle lanes:

3. Any bike is a gravel bike, provided you don't mind washing out the front, then the back.

The Fear. I felt it.
