Out of curiosity, I took a quick look at CoCoRaHS snowfall data for the November - January period in Midland, MI going back to 2015. This is the snowiest start to winter for Midland during that period and the first year with Nov-Jan snowfall over 2 feet since the winter of 2019-2020.

An appropriately nerdy way for a boundary layer meteorologist to return home from #AMS2026. It was a wonderful week learning about outstanding science!

What sits with me after this week of #AMS2026 is that despite everything we’ve seen over the last 12 months, the science is resilient. It is hurt and handicapped and hamstrung but it endures. And the students, despite EVERYTHING **still** want to work for NWS or in broadcasting.

After the #AMS2026 emergency town hall regarding NCAR, it is ***imperative*** that folks contact their senators and representatives. IN PARTICULAR:

Maine: Susan Collins (Chair - Senate Approps.)
Oklahoma: Tom Cole (Chair - House Approps.)
Colorado: John Hickenlooper and Joe Neguse

Great talks ahead in the Coastal Meteorological Processes session today, 4:30–6 pm in room 360D!

Two feature MITTEN-CI data: Kyle Brooks on lake-breeze thermodynamic evolution, and Cassie Isenberger on frontal slope and misovortices. #AMS2026

Attrition in meteorology programs is high - especially in the sophomore year. What if immersive field experiences early in the major could help?

I’ll be talking about STORM, a paid, week-long, post-freshman field experience and its impact on students.

Tuesday at 9:45 am in room 350D at #AMS2026.

Interested in UAS observations of hail swaths and cold pools? Check out this morning's talk led by Andrew Mord of CU Boulder. The talk is at 11:15 am in room 340B. It was great coordinating with the CU team during ICECHIP - excited to see the results! #AMS2026

Check out poster S217 tonight from 7-9 pm in the Mesoscale Processes section of #AMSStudent2026 to see research by my students examining thermodynamic evolution of a thunderstorm outflow airmass. #AMS2026

I’m excited to be in Houston for #AMS2026 and looking forward to catching up and making new connections! Quick heads-up: I’m in PT for shoulder pain, so I’ll be prioritizing comfort over fashion and avoiding shoulder pats when greeting. I may also step out as needed. Thanks for understanding!

For #AMS2026 - John and @pamknox.bsky.social report that Elevator #14 at the headquarters Hilton should be avoided at all costs. They had to be freed from it by Houston Fire Dept after it got stuck, and the FD told them it happens regularly with that elevator.

For those attending #AMS2026, you'll note there aren't nearly as many NOAA/NWS folks as normal - largely driven by the impacts this administration has had on our field.

While perusing the many private company booths, recall none of the big players did so much as issue a press release in opposition.

I was hoping for warmer weather at #AMS2026 but the forecast sure beats what we're expecting in Michigan!

I think this is as good as my aurora view will get tonight since cloud cover is on the increase. Michigan has had some awesome displays over the last couple of years, so I'm OK with missing some events.
