Husband. Father. Homemaker. North Carolinian. Parisian.
Pinned
Given the new influx of folks here, I thought it might make sense to drop an introduction!

I'm a husband and father of two amazing kids currently living with my family in Paris, France. I'm a lawyer by training who spent seven years as a local elected official in Durham, North Carolina. 1/2

Minnesota law enforcement have video from multiple angles of an unjustified deadly shooting in Minneapolis. Therefore, they should arrest and prosecute the shooter for murder. The fact that the killer is a federal agent should not alter that basic logic. If anything, charging is even more important.

A U.S. takeover of Greenland is so patently absurd on its face that it’s easy to dissolve into the laughter and ridicule that the JD Vance photo invites. Yet a Greenland grab is such an increasingly real threat, that it’s probably best to sober ourselves up ...

An additional case of measles was confirmed in an NC county yesterday, the 3rd within 1 week. It’s important to know the symptoms, & call your doctor if you think you or your family may have measles. If you haven’t been vaccinated, call us or your doctor to make an appointment as soon as possible.

Senior EU officials believe Trump simply wants to be the President who paints the stars and stripes – and maybe his own name – on the giant white island which appears to dwarf the United States on traditional
maps and globes. This is far from over

Woke up @ 7am to more snow here in Paris and it’s still snowing almost three hours later. Our amazing city of Paris workers came out a while ago to shovel snow in and around the little park across from our apartment and put down sand so folks can enjoy it today. 💙🤍❤️ #ParisForNow 🇫🇷

You may have heard about changes in the childhood immunization schedule (vaccination schedule), but this doesn't mean vaccines are less safe or less important. Getting your child vaccinated, on time, is the safest & most effective way to protect them from the consequences of preventable illnesses.

Someone asked me to comment on the anniversary of Jan 6. I will consider having comments on it….should it ever end. We are very much still reaching for the nadir of this reclamation. No time yet for historicizing it. Still trying to survive it.

Proving once again, that Walz is it rarity of rarities, a politician who cares more about doing right by his constituents than getting elected.
Walz announces he's changed his mind and will no longer run for reelection next year

So Trump successfully bullied a good man and his family. Because winning over Harris Walz wasn’t enough. Trump wanted to destroy him.

Walz is making the right decision for his family. But the success of Trump’s grotesque bullying campaign is yet another frightening step in our national descent.

Durham County Public Health: redeeming my faith in public health for 6 years (and counting).
Lots of people will be returning to work and school from the holidays tomorrow, and lots of people are sick. If you’re not feeling well or have tested positive for a virus like the flu or COVID-19, please help protect yourself and others by staying home, or wear a mask if you have to go out!

Random hot take: Mr. Bennett is every bit as frivolous and shallow as his wife, but all his failures are male-coded so we're culturally primed to like him while finding her silly.

Im seeing discussions about consultations with congress, authorizations of force etc. I have to say this transcends any of what I would call sub constitutional technicalities. The president has gone to war with a foreign power and, it seems, kidnapped a foreign head of state on the basis of nothing.

In 2026 I want all of the decent people to remember one thing.

You aren’t meant to be this disciplined, this self-sacrificing to survive. The environment is supposed to support good living. We can have that. You are not a failure. That is politics.

That is all.

We did something wonderful—eradicated disease. And it took almost nothing to maintain. Then we squandered it.
5 million-plus kindergartners now live in counties where schools don’t have “herd immunity” for measles, Washington Post reporters found.

WaPo also built a tool to look up your own county.

Exceptional, and alarming work by @laurenweberhp.bsky.social @caitlingilbert.bsky.social et al.

U.S. vaccination rates are plunging. Look up where your school stands.
Take a look to see what the kindergarten measles vaccination rates are in your area.

look you may not like the plessy vs. ferguson decision, but at least it's going through the regular avenues of power instead of the violent extralegal imposition of white terror like in wilmington, nc two years later.
She helped pass a bill—which is 100% part of liberalism. Maybe you don’t like the bill. Maybe the bill will hurt some people and have bad outcomes. But that’s part of liberal democracy.
