For the new folks, some info beyond the bio!

In real life, I’ve been dealing with cancer treatments the last year. So my “popular” writing tends to be about that.

In my academic life, I write on a mix of patristics (mainly 4th c.) and modern theology (mainly on Robert W. Jenson).

I love that Veterans Day is also the Feast of St. Martin of Tours, which is a helpful (imo) corrective to the uncritical worship of war and violence. ⚓️

Haven’t had a good, embarrassing think-someone-is-waving-at-you-when-really-they’re-waving-at-someone-else-right-behind-you situation in a long time, glad I could knock that off the bucket list this morning before I got too proud

None of you are watching the Canadian Premiere League final, but they’ve delayed the extra time after 90’ because there are trucks snowploughing the pitch and I’m PRAYING for a shootout

I was reading this piece in the Anglican Journal about the GAFCON split, and besides agreeing with Radner (on some things! which may shock some of you, but he was my advisor, after all), I was struck by Zink's comments about Rwandan students coming to Montreal. anglicanjournal.com/scholars-pon...

Daylight Saving has apparently wrecked all Parents With Small Children in this city, because at this diner they’ve sat three Dads With Small Children all in a row.

Designing an ecumenical advent service to be held here by the chaplaincy office, including a reading that’s a poem by Malcolm Guite. Will the cool Anglicans on here now accept me as one of them???

Stop listening to pastors who embody the opposite of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, & self-control.

Our lives & actions will tell the truth about what we believe.

Christian Nationalism is the way of Satan, & it is fully anti-Christ.

Now that I'm safely back in Canada after being in the US for the last few days, I can confidently ask my fellow Americans who are here on Bluesky:

Hey, WTF?

This is probably a millennial-academic thing, but I'm always shocked when I am perceived as an adult by other adults. This dinner with our international students was excellent, and I can't believe there's a public photo of me looking like I know what I'm doing. news.mcmaster.ca/in-photos-ha...

There's a sort of fuzzy line between "still young" and "getting older" that potentially terminal illness blurs further, but I'll say this: I think you know when you're old because you really appreciate your local pharmacist.

I think that’s the key for me. I don’t lump everyone in GAFCON in with schism, but if you aided and abetted schism somewhere else…

One of the most endearing characteristics of my toddler is his refusal to understand the typical social convention of a high-five being a one-and-done kinda thing. If you keep your hand up, he’ll just keep high-fiving you forever.
