When the far right invents or exaggerates bad behaviour by their foes - see ‘cancel culture’; threats to free speech; anti-fascist violence; financial corruption; cronyism etc - they do so to preemptively excuse their own far worse & blatant abuses in exactly the same spaces.

We rarely talk about money when it comes to making theatre. As a rule, all our performances in schools are heavily subsidised, and all the work with young people to develop our shows is offered to those young people for free.

To make this happen, it costs a fair amount!

This on Instagram from @beardedgenius.bsky.social expresses what I’ve attempted to many times before so succinctly and powerfully.

I often think, when you’re old and grey and are looking back on your life, what will you think? What will others think?

Just be nice, kind and do your best.

It was an odd one, centred on the speaker’s strong dislike of John Lennon’s 'Imagine'. Whatever your view of the song (or John Lennon, for that matter), the point being made was that without belief in heaven, life itself loses meaning. Naturally, we don't find this particularly inspiring. 🧵
R4 Today's 'Thought for the Day' this morning was anti-humanist twaddle (as a change from the usual religious platitudes). Will #BBC #R4Today allow a right of reply? Why is there never a humanist 'Thought for the Day'?
