And Breathe: The Game That Forgot How to Wait
Football hasn’t changed as much as we think. It still takes time to build. It still takes time to grow.

Phwoar! What a relief. I think that’s what they call winning ugly.

First half was on in the background but on mute as Boxing Day hosting duty called but so chuffed with that.

Sometimes you get what you deserve. Sometimes you don’t.

Backs against the wall. Battling. Bizarre. Baffling. Brave.

Merry Christmas everyone! Hope you all have a great day.

Anyone know why Evann Guessand was able to play vs United on Sunday and Amad and Mbeumo weren’t? #AFCON

Semenyo would’ve been a really nice addition to the squad. Exactly the profile we should eventually be targeting to boost depth. But the timing just isn’t right. No European football limits our pull, and if a player has his heart set elsewhere, we can’t force it. 1/3

After yesterday’s game, I’ve been mulling something over that I hadn’t really considered before. I think I know the reasons, but it’s an interesting comparison. That point being that…

I’m far more patient with young central defenders like Yoro and Heaven than I am with full/wing backs like Dorgu.

If you come to terms that this current United side are at the START of a process under Amorim and that aspirations of top 4 finishes this season were always nonsense, I’m telling you, this season will be a lot easier for you. The side, with 5 or 6 starters missing, are playing good football.

Really positive signs. Tactically and mentally we look better by the week. Just individual errors and lack of concentration in crucial moments continuing to cost us. We didn’t deserve to lose that game today, against a very good side. With the team we had on the pitch, it was a great effort.

If you can’t see that Ruben Amorim is improving this side then I don’t know what to tell you. Once again, the better side throughout the first half. Poor from Yoro for their goal, but brilliance from Rogers at the same time. Deserved equaliser.

So far this game is a prime example of what the league currently is. One week a side can look like world beaters, and the next as if they’ve never seen each other before. Bar one or two sides, inconsistency is rife within the league, United (obviously) included.

What’s happened to the semi-automated offsides? I am I imagining we had them in the PL? It’s taken far too long.

Gusto there demonstrating another downside of VAR’s influence. Staying down, making the most of a collision ‘just in case’ the VAR decides it could be foul play. Players seem to be more and more wise to the ‘might as well try my luck’ approach.

Amorim calling out player entitlement is a good thing. The culture has been rotten for a decade. It’s not fixed by tiptoeing around egos, it’s fixed by confronting it head-on. If that means addressing it in pre-match press conferences, so be it. If they’ve anything about them, it’ll spur them on.

Judging from the last 10 minutes, looks like it could be a short old day in the dirt for England.

🧵Everyone calmed down a bit?

A few thoughts on the back of it…

Best 35 minutes of football since Amorim took charge. Tempo, patterns, aggression. But profligacy killed us. Should’ve been out of sight early. That ruthlessness in front of goal has to improve if control is to mean results. 1/6

Think I’ll try and put tonight’s game into words tomorrow. Far too much to process to do it any real justice tonight.

Right, who are these and what have they done with Manchester United?

Gary, it’s the same formation it’s been all season. Leave it.

Hate to break it to you all, but OGs are goals. 5 points clear without any of their best players really hitting their straps so far this season says a lot. It’s a cliche, but those are the wins that they’ll look back on if they win it in May.

A lot to unpick there…

- Darren Fletcher is still a knob
- Arteta’s reaction embarrassing
- Yellow the right decision
