Sharing this because more people need to see it, this is Kathy Bates, aged 23, in the absolutely brilliant film Taking Off (1971)

Why are these pine scented? I'm not going to sniff them either before or after use.

A neat little quiz game: Is a headline homophobia from the 80s-90s or transphobia from the 2010s-2020s? Because it's all the same bullshit, repackaged for the hate du jour

Have I Got Phobia For You
Bringing attention to the often harmful practices of our mainstream media. Thankfully the days of vile hostility against gay people are now more or less over, but, reading today’s newspapers, there’s ...

I do not understand authors, broadcasters, voice artists, YouTubers, ANY creative artists using quick and cheap AI for their cover images and not realising: it will be you next.

Disclosure & Anderson .Paak - NO CAP (UK/USA, 2025)

2010s me is very excited for this collab, 2025 me is as well. kids stopped saying "no cap" about a year ago and this should be a lid on that too I guess.

If "we're going to confiscate refugees jewellery" doesn't bring down this government, what will? Imagine being a Labour MP and not resigning the whip right now.

So many interesting-looking youtube documentary videos which turn out to have AI voices, why would I bother listening if you can't bother speaking*

*people who genuinely cannot speak are of course exempted here.

Großstadtgeflüster - Icke! (Germany, 2023)

Weirdo German electro-pop, every time it slowly wins me over, loses me, then wins me back big time.

I've been collecting pandemic era signs that nobody can be bothered to take down or remove. There's something grimly fascinating about this. Putting them up was urgent and important; removing them is nobody's job. How long will some of these hang around?

Mondo Grosso ft. Hikari Mitsushima - In This World (Japan, 2022)

Always love the way Mondo Grosso apply this vividly vast filmic landscape of sound to what is otherwise low-key electropop, and glad Hikari is getting a credit these days too.

Still think Akhenaten was Moses. Yes the timeline is a couple of hundred years off, but that's because we are treating the bible as a valid source, and it isn't one. Pretty sure some Egyptologists are going to come and tell me off for saying this, but **I want to believe** let me have this one pls.
Haven't figured out what should replace Polybius as my "one conspiracy theory that I know is BS but believe anyway." My interim has been "the Lindbergh baby is still out there" but I'm gonna need to come up with smth slightly less absurd before the impending centennial of that kidnapping.

Kero Kero Bonito - Well Rested (UK/Japan, 2021)

There has not been nearly enough KKB this decade, but at least there's this seven-minute proghyperpop epic to keep me going (that and Bugsnax)

I have a solution to this.
Came across a stash of old mixtapes today.

How do young folk today show their aural love to others (or at least impose their tastes on them)?

I spent ages on the covers for the ones I made, as well as carefully handwriting all the details on the j-card.

Playlists are great, but not the same.

When your country is taken over by sleazy oligarchs they’re not sending their best. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists.
You know, not that it's a thing I'm ever likely to do, but were I ever to take part in a child sex-slave ring with a hundred or so of the most powerful men ever to live, I would simply not then repeatedly send plain-text emails to them saying "Hi! Great time we had doing sex crimes the other night!"

"The BBC is too right-wing" = their news department routinely platform fascists and treat socialists as dangerous idiots if they mention them at all

"The BBC is too left-wing" = there are some black people and some gay people on screen sometimes
Most people think the BBC is biased but in different directions (or they're not sure).

Yaeji - booboo (South Korea / USA, 2024)

Lots of bad things are happening in the 2020s, but let's not forget that this shy/nerdy/queer Korean woman can put out the dirtiest, nastiest deep house and techno records and they all absolutely slap.

Hannah Diamond - Affirmations (UK, 2023)

It's not that it's brilliantly complex work despite being throwaway pop music, it's a brilliantly complex work through and due to being throwaway pop music.
