Hello, new followers. If you're here about audio drama and you aren't already following @exoplanetary.bsky.social , may I humbly suggest?
Saw it tonight. I endorse the statements of Mr. Sherin. Don't think anything could have prepared me for the dogs, though.
Jennifer Lawrence reminds me of Gena Rowlands in A Woman Under the Influence. Pattinson is good - he's always good - but he doesn't have much to do. Credit him for again seemingly wanting nothing more than to work with a great filmmaker.

Brief vision of an alternative universe where George Lucas meets John Inman in 1975. Anthony Daniels lives life as obscure mime.

Cannot express how funny I find this… can’t even entirely explain why it’s funny

I would just hire Steve Coogan, should we ever be found lacking.
Michael Caine, previously coolest Londoner who ever lived, has sold his voice to AI 😑
Growing up in a time when “selling out” was the most shameful thing you could do and then being forced to live through the 2020s feels like being kicked in the head by a horse every day

Enjoyed picking up a copy of John Candy - A Life in Comedy by @pulmyears.bsky.social at a screening of PLANES, TRAINS, & AUTOMOBILES this evening. A great event part of the Portland Book Festival. Been looking forward to this book. 🧵

You think you’re mad / too unstable / kicking in chairs / and knocking down tables / in a restaurant / in a West End town / Call the police / there's a madman around...

Stories need counterbalance and irony. Del Toro makes clear in his Frankenstein that the scientist, not the creature, is the monster. Cheney was uncomplicated and straightforward. This is why a comedian made the film. You have to bring your own stuff to it. Sometimes that works...
The problem with making a movie about Cheney is he’s a monster. Monsters are boring. He had a lifelong will to power, & achieved it. It didn’t bother him at all.

Richard Nixon was a poor kid who wanted to be a great man, but he was ruined by the same forces that let him almost get there.

Drama!

I know you have to make allowances for film when adapting, but if Doctor Doom isn't constantly narrating everything around him as he does in the comics, I'll probably see that as a lost opportunity.

There are unintentional consequences for every leader. Our current world is a direct result of Cheney's ruthless and amoral career.
Cheney is dead. In light of Trump we’re forced to re-evaluate his long, complicated history. This will be unfashionable to some, but I have to say - fuck him in hell. He has the blood of millions in three wars on his hands. Trump may say he hates Bush/Cheney but there’s a direct line between them.

It's one of those "if you know, you know" things, but you have no idea how delighted I was to hear Christine Easterlin this morning.
On today's broadcast, Day 2950: The real Christine Easterlin is back with new updates and her usual threats. Fake Christine won't be coming back. Tomorrow: Finally some rest? #TakeCareOfEachOther

@wychstreet.bsky.social Pesci doesn't speak in the Apple Scorsese doc, eh? For many, the past is only darkness. The performances do speak for themselves.

You can tell Barks from Kelly on sight, despite the fact both artists were very on-model (like all those ghosting Disney characters). Barks' gags tended to be simpler. Only Kelly would introduce a deranged-looking fake turkey like this for a staid Disney duck cover.

Some cogent analysis from Mr. Shearer. I would add one caveat; I anticipate that our first female president will likely be a Republican. Once we reach a point that a woman can be nominated by the GOP, I expect she will win.

Why is it that whenever I have to run a quick errand in the afternoon, and there's a TV playing in the waiting room, I only see Judge Judy-style courtroom shows? Is that the only thing that works on broadcast TV anymore?

Flat tire last night. It was pitch black, and a stranger came and helped me. Mark (or Marc?), hope you're doing well today, wherever you are!

Good grief. France is basically just Amélie with more smoking and shrugging, isn't it? "C'est la vie." They're really committed to the bit, aren't they? No wonder we all die horribly over here.
