Undeniably lockdowns had an impact on schools and education, but what also had (and continues to have) an impact was pretending kids either couldn't get it or suffer long term harm from it, and actual solutions such as installing proper ventilation in schools etc did not happen.

this is such a fantastic example of the transformative power of design when used collaboratively and intelligently. the visual design of this campaign is deep-rooted in history and culture and is thoughtful and beautiful
In particular Aneesh Bhoopathy, from the design coop Forge, who designed the identity. A brilliant reminder to *employ human creatives!*

Many full time creatives have “invisible safety nets” like bread-winning partners, trust funds, external support, etc. No shame on anyone, but it creates a false vision of success. The cost of going to cons alone on top of hoping to eat as a freelancer are untenable, IMO.
When people hear that I'm returning to part time work they often ask "are things not going well with your art?"

The problem really is things are going well, but the world is so unstable that I long for some consistency and income that I don't have to pay quarterly taxes on

I know the stress of this year is really starting to get to me because the Weird Dreams have started to return (missing since 2021). Most recent iteration: trying to figure out how to thwart a memory wipe so I don't forget the existence of a fugitive I'm hiding and inadvertently cause his starvation

This sentiment currently being sorely tested by October-post-daylight-savings
October is SO good. Take a moment today to appreciate how pretty the world is in October (before daylight savings hits tomorrow)

It's rare these days, but every so often I remember what 2014 was like on the run up to the referendum and feel heartbroken all over again

I am going to see my sister defend her PhD on fish at a public viva in Ghent this Friday, a fact which is only very very tangentially related to the Selkie shortlisting delay I PROMISE

It is bonkers how busy this year has been... I keep on preparing to beat myself up about how behind I am on [X thing] only to be shocked into sense by reminding myself just how much has happened/continues to happen in 2025 personally and professionally 😵

Maintaining a diversity of ongoing personal projects is important because it enables you to procrastinate on one by aimlessly tinkering with another, thereby creating the possibility that you'll finish one of them by accident.

Here's a breath of fresh air.

Glasgow's chronic air pollution was one of the earliest issues I raised when I was first elected. I was always clear that we'd never crack it until there was bold action on the most polluting vehicles.

Delighted to welcome this success.
