Edinburgh University UCU staff are on strike protesting compulsory redundancies and students are protesting the university’s investments in Israel. Staff and students were in solidarity with each other this morning at Old College, which the students closed down.

I can't join the strikes today as I'm off work recovering from stage 2 cancer. That hasn't stopped me emailing all 8 of my MSPs, inc @patrickharvie.bsky.social, asking them to show support & calling for an inquiry into the University of Edinburgh’s finances & failure to avoid redundancies.
Today we have called a "Lobby Day".

UoE's ongoing cuts could lead to up to 1800 compulsory redundancies in addition to the damage already being done. Our political representatives should be addressing this crisis.

Flood MSPs' offices with calls!

Contrast between widespread cuts for staff yet fat pay for VCs couldn’t be more stark

Monday, 17 November: Call your MSP. UCU has prepared a briefing here, but you can also simply call and tell your story. These cuts will affect the whole city.
