Great work! It is hard when you suffer unexplained fatigue when asked by OH for concrete work pattern+adjustments. *you* need to have the solution. Lots of things in academia, workshops conferences sap you but needed for promotion. Teaching harder. get penalised in ways that make it hard to advance

We’ve known for now decades Mandelson was corrupt. For some reason this translated to some as ‘shrewd politician’ or savvy diplomat. I can’t understand how Starmer manages such consistency in terrible, terrible judgment since taking office

Are there elements of this in Laurence Fox. JK...Once you’re locked in to such proclamations, there’s no going back. no reward for debate or nuance. Extreme positions monetised but begin to believe them. How else to explain why smart, educated, once-rational beings become baiting rabble rousers

lack of outrage from Tories to renationalising UK’s railways shows complicit acceptance that privatisation of this and other public goods (like water) has been an utter disaster for this country. Cost tax payer more?!? We have most expensive and shittest rail in Europe www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

my dad didn’t go to university and he was extremely happy to pay taxes for his four children to do so; and, indeed, for the doctors who treated him at Addenbrookes to have gone to university as well.
Rachel Reeves: "It is not right that people who don't go to university bear the cost for others to." I don't use local leisure centres and I don't drive, so will I be made exempt for taxation that pays for all that stuff? Or is it only education we'll be going after

I'm calling bullshit on the media narrative that Trump is "pivoting" and "deescalating" on his ICE raids. The threshold is this: As long as the military occupations and the treatment of US cities as enemy territory continue, there's no pivot. ICE out. 1/

Isn’t it insane how one man can erode an institution of such repute. Trust, reputation, esteem. Innovation. Boundary pushing. These are core currencies in academia and take decades, if not centuries to produce. Edinburgh won’t recover from this quickly and it is v sad to watch

I read articles like this one and first I cringe because it's the same ideas retold by the same people, then I laugh because the things they write are so fucking naive, and then I cry because I just see history repeating itself. Has it ever been thus? Yes.
