It takes a village! As of tonight, our caseworkers and wider team at West London Welcome have pulled out all the stops and ensured that the twelve of our refugee community members who were facing homelessness in the run-up to xmas are now safely housed.

Yet what do we get?

Temporary refugee status.
Family reunion decimated.
Asylum support withdrawn.

Where’s the accountability? The self-awareness? The reparations?
Migration cannot be separated from colonialism.

Instead of slamming the door, the UK must recognise its colonial legacy, and take urgent steps towards justice.

Absolutely - the Asylum Seeker Memorial Project has done fantastic, heart-breaking work making recording many deaths in the asylum system.
But it's appalling that this vital work has been left to journalists and campaigners for so long - it's the Government's duty to track these tragedies.

The Government, as well as leaders of other far-right European governments, sees migrants as less deserving of human rights. This is racism pure and simple.

Let us be clear: we won't stop resisting.
Yesterday, on #HumanRightsDay, we found ourselves reflecting on the hostile policies announced in recent weeks.

Policies that don't just erode the rights of people seeking sanctuary, but remove protections that keep us all safe.

Let us be clear: we won't stop resisting.

Starmer wants to change the ECHR to to defeat "the forces of hate and division".

Yet really, he is bowing to the forces of hate and division.

The only people who dislike the ECHR are people with contempt for refugees.
2/ Today, Keir Starmer marked Human Rights Day by beginning discussions about potential changes to these long-standing protections.

Alongside the wider erosion of refugee rights and the Government’s proposed “one in, one out” system, people’s lives have been reduced simply to numbers.

It comes as leaders meet in Strasbourg to discuss a potential shake-up of the European Convention on Human Rights.

This Government cuts aid to people facing catastrophe, yet won’t make billionaires pay their fair share.

Make it make sense.

It’s time for #RepairNotRetreat 👇
There is a fair alternative to cutting aid.

Tax extreme wealth → strengthen health systems → support climate resilience.

Justice-led solutions exist.

Asylum is about protecting people. But the Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Act, which received royal assent this week, treats asylum as a border security issue. It continues the trend of criminalising people seeking sanctuary. It builds walls against refugees. We need something different.

If we give these greedy companies an inch, they'll take a mile.

It's on all of us to take a stand. Email your MP today to call for quality social housing FOR ALL 👇

I think this is a great example of what migrant rights organisations need to do: speak for everyone. Campaign for housing and workers rights for all in ways that solve the asylum-specific problems.
