If a job is such that the person doing it doesn’t care what slop they deliver, and the person receiving it doesn’t care they’ve received slop, then that my friends is a job that never needed to exist in the first place
I'm not even saying that's the most *likely* possibility, but it's just very clear that the likelihood of that outcome as increased and even if there's, like, a 1 in 10 change that "AI replaces most to all white collar jobs in 10 years" that's an *enormous* risk to the social order!

I’ll think about the possibility of the hype being true once it starts looking possibly true
I understand why people are exhausted by AI hype, and why those of us squarely in the corner of "human dignity uber alles" see AI doomerism as self-serving hype, but I *really* think people on the left broadly need to start thinking seriously about the possibiltiy of the hype being...true.

I keep having to explain to people why I don’t use any AI at work and they don’t believe me that I manage to do all my work without it. But when I ask them what they use it for and how it helps they can’t point to a single thing that isn’t easier to just do yourself in the first place

This is creepy when we recognise contemporary AI is all humans all the way down, just obfuscated behind the screen or dashboard. Based on stolen data, stolen labour, stolen humanity... AI is not currently emancipatory and just serves the privileged and deskills those who think this is automation.
Once you see it, you can’t unsee it.
