Stephanie's essay on D. A. Miller on Jane Austen is, alone, worth the price of admission! It's how I'm closing out my grad seminar on close reading this semester, paired with her Norton Library edited edition of Sense and Sensibility.

All to say: buy the book! It's shipping!
Truly think this volume is great, and I can’t wait for you to read it!

One thing to note about this is that it was apparently a double-tap strike: Israel killed one journalist (among others) in the first strike, waited a few minutes, and then carried out a second strike that killed first-responders and other journalists. www.reuters.com/world/middle...

I'm language editing a manuscript by a nonnative English speaker and something I think is really cool about this work is the new-to-me words and sometimes beautifully unusual turns of phrase because the writer's vocabulary and syntactic imagination aren't as limited by convention as mine are

Authors often give me so much more personal info than I technically need. Running late? No worries. I get it. No Qs asked. But now I get why they do it -- because many people will assume you're not truly unavailable unless you unload tons of details about the exact hardship you're dealing with.

Hot tip for authors: make sure you treat the people responsible for producing and marketing your book with respect. I mean that is the bare minimum and should go without saying, but it's amazing how some folks don't realize how they're shooting themselves in the foot.

have been enjoying telling my authors of long mss that they can make significant progress towards meeting their word count limit by removing the location from all their citations
OH MY GOD when did Chicago Manual of Style stop requiring publisher location in citations???

I just yelled "WHAT??!" out loud in my living room and my wife was very let down by what elicited that reaction.

It is not blood libel to state accurately who is being killed and by whom. If the IDF and its supporters do not want its reputation linked to the slaughter of more than 16,000 babies and children, I would suggest they stop killing babies and children.
