psh 50 year mortgages are a half measure; real ones want 100 year mortgages that burden all the debtor's genetic descendants and let investors build actual castles off all the interest they'll collect for their outlay
QUINTANILLA: What's more likely -- a $2,000 tariff rebate check or a 50 year mortgage?
HASSETT: They're both really good ideas

Hey Pennsylvania voters (and Pittsburghers): did you try and contact Senator Fetterman's office yesterday only to find out you couldn't leave a voicemail?
I'm interested in talking to his constituents for the news today.

There’s a difference between “thinking Dems were about to ‘win’ the shutdown” and “being pissed they lost it in such dramatic fashion”
All they got was proof that there are 60 votes for whatever the leftmost GOP senator will allow

For people saying that Democrats were on the verge of winning the shutdown, I'm going to note that last week when Schumer proposed a deal that would have given Democrats what they wanted in exchange for opening up the government, many of the same people were decrying it as a sellout.

The coordinated nature of this—none are facing voters in 2026—means that either Schumer approved it or failed in his job as Senate Majority Leader to stop it.
Dems voting "no" get zero credit until they demand a change in leadership. Schumer out as Leader, Durbin out as Whip.

Kaine admits that the shutdown pay stuff is already required by law. He’s rewarding and encouraging Trump’s lawlessness by still treating it as a bargaining chip.

agreeing to make a terrible deal while your main opponent is quite literally being boo'd on live tv by an entire stadium of people is the kind of political instinct you'd normally only find in a 3 week old dead goldfish

I am once again saying that we saw what wall to wall, panic coverage of a crisis looked like after the Biden debate and there’s no reason Trump isn’t getting that kind of coverage except for class solidarity.
So the oldest person ever to become president keeps falling asleep in his office during public events and there’s no big public discussion on how this is a coverup or how republicans are lying to us about how this government is running?

Its actually worse, in the case of small airports its basically a subsidy to the private jet set
So it turns out... the US air travel system was incredibly, deeply dependent on federal funding to just run day-to-day all this time, to the benefit of private airline shareholders, when everyone thinks that state-run trains are leeching off the government. Weird!
