Okay #DataSky

For the Snowflake fanboys, why?

For Databricks lovers, why?

❄️ reached out to our management and now leadership is like, good for AI, easier for less technical people, and cheaper. Right as my team is partnering with Databricks 🤷‍♂️

Any #traders out there us digital notetaking tools? I like pen and paper, but I’m moving around a lot and want something designed around my trading planning. Does TradingView support anything like this? Still learning, always learning 💪🏻

Crazy in California. The valley is under a high pressure ridge, trapping all the smoke and pollution. FN disgusting waking up to 100+ AQI. Looks like fog, but it’s gross 🤮

Do you data folks know what kind of time saver system versions (temporal) tables are in managing SCD in your data warehouse? Would you a primer on it? I’m getting some training material together, and looking to see if others are interested here. #DataSky #DataScience #DataEngineering

Is there a way to see which packs I’ve been added to? Definitely seems like I get waves of followers after it happens, but i never get notified of been added to one 😂

If there are any Linux sys admins out there with cloud exp, I have a lead on a good paying, good benefits, union job if you don’t mind living around Sacramento, CA.

Hit me up, if interested. I know the job market can be brutal, and I’d love to have good talent come to our town.

Also, I hate you.

#30DayMapChallenge Day 4: Hexagon

For today's challenge I thought I'd share new technique for showing origin-destination flows using irregular hexagon (and some other polygon) layouts.

Illustrated with Manchester commuters..

All explained in this interactive:

I covered all six in my first class to my work community because they wanted to understand merging, but it was entirely outside of any remote; that’ll be phase 2 to cover workflows and discuss how to collaborate since we’ve got a lot of diversity in teams and tooling.
This is why I don’t teach git for deep understanding to young analysts. I teach 4 command intro. Then 2 merge commands later. Most users should not waste brain cycles on deep understanding and should only remember who to ask if they get confused
when I'm explaining something weird about computers I always try to think about if the Weird Thing is really worth the real estate it takes up in your brain or not

Exactly. A robot can assemble a car, but it’s not going to design a car for an audience, or understand quality or safety. Software and data engineering requires … shockingly, engineering! 😂
good discussion going over on Threads: how much code does AI generate for you?

Google CEO says 25% (that’s debatable), for me it’s more like 90-95%, but i’d also say my AI is wholly incapable of doing the job even though it writes almost all the code

It’s interesting to me as I’m going into a leadership role that maybe I take my level of knowledge and understanding for granted 🤷‍♂️

Working with my reports, who are competent and experienced people, are amazed at some of the stuff I show them, that I thought is pretty basic. #weekendthoughts

I hate to break it, but deprecating something without a plan to remove it is not deprecating it.
When you deprecate something (a function, a data model, a report, etc.), set a removal date, and communicate this with the possible users. You'll thank yourself later!
