So many people are all like "My neighbor put up a Trump sign, I don't want to know them/it's not safe" but you are even less safe as long as you are not a real person to them. Make yourself a real person to them, be neighborly; people are prone to making exceptions for people they know personally.
Like, you don't have to be friends with your neighbors, but at least friendly to start. Even if it's just acknowledging them when you see them. That goes a long way.
I can’t tell you how many times I have said “get to know your neighbors” and had people reply that they don’t WANT to know their neighbors. We’ve created an antisocial society; no wonder it’s crumbling.

I know this is the goal, but this is also an exaggeration... having just come back from Minneapolis
I don’t think people quite understand that the occupation by ICE in the Twin Cities has more or less erased non-white people from public life. They cannot safely exist in any space accessible to the public and moving between private places leaves folks vulnerable to kidnapping by armed masked goons.
