So I screwed up my old Bluesky account (don't ask) and now I'm starting over on this one.
In a nation like the US, it shouldn’t be hard.

Bouie is correct. This is why race & IQ hucksters have to make what they do look like science. It's to bamboozle people with what looks like legitmate scholarship, because the basic claim is very easy for most people to reject.
apropos james watson’s death i had an idle thought today about how stupid race/iq stuff sounds. “buh if your skin is darker you are biologically less smart” is a thing only a dumbass can believe

There isn't a single "template". Mamdani-type candidates might work in some places, might not in others.
frankly, yes, Cuomo ran the worst campaign of all time on top of being a disgraced sex creep

Mamdani is exciting, his campaign was great, I like the guy, but just objectively I don’t think you can look at his campaign and assume it’s the template for future democratic electoral hegemony, right?
And against Cuomo, who was gutshot

What's also sad is that a crime that would be a generational event in many other countries has been exceeded many times over in the US.
George Banks, who killed 13 people, five of whom were his own children, in a 1982 shooting rampage in Pennsylvania that was one of the nation’s worst mass murders at the time, has died at 83.
George Banks, Convicted Mass Murderer, Dies at 83
He fatally shot 13 people in Pennsylvania in September 1982 in what was then one of the nation’s worst mass shootings. Five of the victims were his own children.

Look, Spanberger is far better than her opponent, and if I lived in Virginia, I'd vote for her. But this kind of talk doesn't help anyone and it puts the lie to the "big tent" rhetoric we've been hearing for months.
Abigail Spanberger takes a swipe at Mamdani, saying "maybe he should be a Democrat" and that his campaign promises are dishonest.

Been saying for a while that one of these days, ICE is going to bust through the "wrong" door and someone standing their ground is going to smoke one of them.
Sooner or later, someone is going to respond to one of these ICE goons by returning the violence and it's not going to end well -- not for the goon, not for the victim, not for any of us.

I'm less concerned that AI will destroy humanity and more concerned that AI will make it easier for humanity to destroy itself.
Again, this precise use case is why these systems exist-to proliferate people’s racist (transphobic, misogynistic…) imaginary at scale. This should not be seen as a “misuse” but rather the product being used exactly as intended.

ROB SCHMITT: People are using SNAP benefits to get their nails done, to get their weaves and their hair. This is a really ugly program.

SEN. RON JOHNSON: That program needs to be dramatically reformed.

Hell, you can't even get the culinary delight of the stale Kaiser roll with margarine!
I appreciate when journalists tell the whole truth, like “Chicago is a great city, it is not burning to the ground, but Jesus, the bagels are terrible”
Such a good point here from @davekarpf.bsky.social: If Dems don't engage forcefully enough on Trump's terror raids, Trump/MAGA propaganda filters down to the "inattentive public" and risks persuading people this is normal and acceptable.

Kruse is right, but what I think sometimes frustrates people isn't so much the idea that they should vote for candidates who are the "lesser of two evils", but the idea that even wanting "less evil" candidates is "purism" (a concept that is badly abused in a lot of these conversations).
Fine, here's a more recent example.

The Religious Right spent decades voting for whatever candidate it saw as the lesser of two evils, becoming a voting bloc within the GOP coalition - first a minority, then a majority - & bending it to its agenda.

It took fifty years, but they got Roe reversed.
