Putin, Russia, and their vast internet disinformation networks and Troll armies all take great PRIDE in the fact that they've been able to misinform, indoctrinate, radicalize, and divide so many tens of millions of MAGA Cult in USA/EU/UK, in coordination with Fox, RW Media, and puppets like Trump.

Excellent and efficient thread that illustrates just how confidently unchecked this administration has become with a passive Congress under Republican leadership.
Typically when the US embarks on an illegal or dubiously legal regime change we use noble words about democracy, rule of law, spreading freedom, etc. to justify our actions. Trump has not done that. He offers few noble words as eulogistic covering. It's a crass power & oil grab, according to Trump.

it goes without saying that articles of impeachment should be getting drafted right now; it also goes without saying that they won’t be—but an opposition party willing to articulate the administration’s criminality would be very useful in an election year

I regularly wonder why Mike Flynn has been so quiet since Trump's last election, when he has been so publicly vocal in the past. He was once the mastermind of interfering in other countries' elections and governments. He didn't just become disinterested.

After we launched an attack, abducted the president and said we are running the country, WaPo thinks he “appears willing” to do it.
Once a critic of overseas entanglements, President Trump now appears willing to embrace regime change as a tool of American influence, raising questions about whether his “America First” doctrine is being redefined.

So here's your answer: An autocracy where only a select few are allowed to have any input and the rest of the people are expected to comply and don't even think about it. Democracy demands engagement and self-education. It's hard, but pays off with freedom and a population invested in outcomes.
I want a government I don't have to think about at all. It's like with your utilities, if you don't think of them it means they're running properly.

His performance in the news conference today was the worst I have seen yet. Slurred words, trying to control too much saliva, rambling on comparing his performance to can-you-believe-it *Jimmy Carter*, having consistent trouble just reading a speech he never could have written at any age: Wow.

It may be ultimately that we view the Supreme Court's insane presidential immunity opinion in Trump v. United States as having done as much damage to our country as its decision in Dred Scott v. Sandford, which contributed mightily to the nation's descent into civil war.

Oil companies have never been able to let it go that Chavez nationalized their Venezuelan subsidiaries. They see this as payback. Trump's explanation along these lines today matches up exactly with what I have heard for years from oil execs in the U.S.
And there ya have it…

Officials from top Wall Street firms will be traveling to Venezuela to investigate “investment prospects” of the country. “The trip will feature about 20 officials from the finance, energy and defense sectors.”

Vaccines are helping older people more than doctors' might have previously guessed. For people, 65+ vaccination is now producing "off-target benefits," meaning the shots do good things beyond preventing infections. RSV vaccines, for example, which became available in 2023, decrease dementia risk👇

These online right wing freaks don't just hate their own country in the abstract. If you are reading this here, they hate *you* specifically. I don't know what our future holds for living with these people, but people should remember that toleration in Europe started behind a sword and a shield.
Insane how much these people hate their own country

Apparently Trump and Hegseth want to know in real time what Catturd thinks of the administration committing war crimes in Venezuela.

Significant that so far more Republican members of Congress have raised questions about this move than Democrats. If Republicans can risk criticizing this administration, then so can Democrats.
Yes, this is exactly the time to demand Democrats "do something."

They can denounce Trump's actions as unconstitutional. They can state that he must be impeached and removed. They can make clear that all involved will be held accountable.

These are the core duties of a role they all signed up for.

At this point you can write CBS off as a network.
Incredible. CBS Evening News announces five new “simple values” — instead of their “38-page handbook” — as they roll out Tony Dokoupil is lead anchor.

One of those values is simply: “We love America and make no apologies for saying so.”
