gonna do a thread of the books i read this year:

really enjoyed this one! by taking such a zoomed in approach to 1658-60 and depicting events at the pace people lived through them, it quite convincingly argues that the republic's fall was far from inevitable, even after cromwell's death

Why did Trump invade Venezuela? Was it oil? Power? Anti-migrant sentiment? (all of the above)? We spoke with Gabriel Hetland to get to the bottom of this key question.

Over 1500 Mainers came to a mobilizing call last night about how to resist ICE.

30+ volunteers organizers put the call together to spotlight immigrant-led response infrastructure, share actions, and encourage local organizing.

Non-protesting dad just trying to hustle his kids, as young as 6mo, out of the neighborhood. ICE threw a flash-bang INTO HIS car, all 6 kids in the hospital now.

If anyone wondered how things turn against occupying armies there's a case study playing out in front of you.

On my way to the Supreme Court where I'll be proud to support 15-year-old Becky Pepper-Jackson, West Virginia's only transgender athlete, as she opposes the state's effort to ban her from playing as herself.

Win or lose, Becky and her family are heroes for standing up for what's right

wokeness was exactly the same as the new left, a groundswell of concern about structural inequalities that got completely devoured by marketing and became synonymous with extreme individualism and self promotion
One of the most contradictory and frustrating aspects of the first Woke Era was that people talked a lot about structural injustices but seemed way more concerned with policing personal behaviour
