All purpose nerd who doesn't post much. I used to play Hamid on Rusty Quill gaming. Quantum Leopard's resident laughotron. He/him.
We put the kittens on cushions on our laps in an attempt to complete our board game and let them stay asleep. They rewarded us with the cutest beans.

Did I mention how small they are. My incredible wife smartly took some pics with a classic 'banana for scale'.

Very excited to announce the addition of two new members to the Monroe family. Meet Edgar (white) and Sabin (orange). Please note they are extremely small.

I don't consider myself much of a gamer. I definitely have a couple of types I love when it comes to games. These are my most played games on steam. Can anyone tell me why one of them is the odd one out?

Your brain works fine when you're under 25 (no matter how 'inconvenient' this fact may be)

The myth that 'if you're under 25, you're not mature enough to decide anything' refuses to die. But it absolutely should

Your brain works fine when you're under 25 (no matter how 'inconvenient' this fact may be)
The claim that, if you're under 25, your brain isn't fully developed, so you can't be trusted to make mature decisions, or held responsible for actions, is very common. But also very wrong.

Can't currently purchase gems from the @mtgarena.com store. Submitted a support ticket and waited 3 days for a response that is clearly written by an LLM. It advised me to use a different browser or clear my cache/cookies. Which since I'm using Arena and not a browser was pretty unhelpful.

The even more unbelievable crime fact (which I learned relatively recently) is that burglary has fallen by more than 90% since the 1990s.

Did anyone notice? Nope. Does anyone believe it? Nope. But is is true? It is!
Useful reminder from Peter Kellner on the problems we refuse to acknowledge are getting better, and the politics of hopelessness that this breeds

This is like my biggest nerd complaint in recent iterations of franchises I love. It was the thing I disliked most about the SW sequel trilogy, and it annoys me in SNW (which is otherwise great). Disco at least technobabbled around it.

AI (and, true story, trained pigeons) can spot tumours 99% as effectively as humans. But you don't get humans who can spot that 1% without them spending a lot of time finding the other 99%.
as I have pointed out before, this phenomenon is well-understood! heavy automation in commercial aircraft cockpits reduces pilot workload (and eliminated the navigator position) but then it got to the point where newer pilots were not confident hand flying, or in handling anomalous situations
“The AI in the study probably prompted doctors to become over-reliant on its recommendations, ‘leading to clinicians becoming less motivated, less focused, and less responsible when making cognitive decisions without AI assistance,’ the scientists said in the paper.”

Y'all, I really enjoy the Maradaine books. The world is rich and we all know I love a wide cast of well-developed characters. You should check out the entire thread, but you should also know Satrine is my favorite.
A few months after THORN, I released A MURDER OF MAGES, the first of the Maradaine Constabulary books. Different cast, same city!

Inspectors Satrine Rainey—a former spy—and Minox Welling—an untrained mage—are two detectives protecting Maradaine from crime, both magical and mundane.

No word of a lie, this is one of the greatest threads I’ve read anywhere.
One of the best things about being in an international server is that if I mention that I live in Bear Country (CO), the Australians all howl about how we need to shut up about Aussie wildlife, because THEIR large carnivores mostly stay in the water, NOT INVITE THEMSELVES INTO THE KITCHEN. (🧵1/?)

Haven't managed a cinema trip in a while, so treating myself to a double bill today. Fantastic 4 and then Superman back-to-back. It's no Barbenheimer, but I'm excited nonetheless.

Have joined a new Pathfinder game recently. I cannot resist the allure of a Halfling with draconic heritage. There's just something about the combination that is catnip to me. Making this one very different though.

I don't play Dead by Daylight, but I sometimes watch @probablyautumn.bsky.social play. I really think they should add Mr Blobby as a killer. Mr Blobby is at least as terrifying as any of the horror movie characters currently in the game.

My other contributions to non-canon #RustyQuillGaming I made back during the final season, long before the show finished. Firstly a fic I wrote archiveofourown.org/works/22499563 and a playlist I made open.spotify.com/playlist/79y... which I ended up adding a few songs to just recently.
Ten years ago the first episode of a podcast called #RustyQuillGaming aired. I cannot quite express what the show meant to me, the ways it changed my life and the relationships it brought me (one in particular). I love it and I miss it and I will always be grateful for it (despite my regrets).

Ten years ago Rusty Quill Gaming released its first ever episode! And ten years on we still love it!

In celebration, a very talented bunch of people came together to offer a tribute for a show we still hold close to our hearts.

Please enjoy

This is a really great demonstration of why "AI" as a term has stopped being useful.
Especially in publishing, where it has roughly the same effect on readers and authors as putting "RECLAIMED MEAT!" in big letters on your food packaging does for food connoisseurs.
Lots of questions about Kobo, #kobowritinglife and how, when and why we are using AI. Putting "AI" in the same sentence as "authors", "books" or "publishers" makes a lot of alarm bells go off, and for good reason. 1/
