rightwingers see people caring about others in their community and instead of finding that inspiring they think it’s some sort of grand conspiracy because they don’t understand what it means to care for others you don’t personally know

A coworker took this from her apartment. I haven't seen a crowd this size before. Maybe the first Women's March? But it was much much warmer that day. ICE OUT OF MINNESOTA!

Wise words from WEB DuBois to gird us today: "It would be shame and cowardice to surrender this glorious land and its opportunities for civilization and humanity to the thugs and lynchers, the mobs and profiteers, the monopolists & gamblers who today choke its soul and steal its resources."

Fred Rogers was deeply political, but Meghan’s just too shallow to understand the message.
This is quite literally one of the stupidest human beings alive

We’ve been in WHO since 1948.
The United States has officially withdrawn from the World Health Organization.

This is a shameful move that puts both Americans and people all over the world at greater risk from disease outbreaks, which require international collaboration to contain.

RFK Jr. appointee Kirk Milhoan has just clearly stated, out loud, that he wants to experiment on the people of the United States by seeing what happens as vaccination coverage plummets and infectious diseases spread.

You know what I love?

Being subjected to misogyny on the professional networking platform. Even better? The dingus was *debating* the output of an AI he asked a loaded question of, claiming it was biased toward “woke” science data it was trained on.

So anyway, that guy is blocked now.

Just imagine being the parent of a soldier from Canada or Denmark or Great Britain or France who was killed in Afghanistan in the one and only time Article 5 was invoked and the entire alliance came to America's aid, and hearing President Bone Spurs say this.
Trump on NATO: "I've always said, will they be there if we ever needed them? That's really the ultimate test. I'm not sure of that. We've never needed them. They'll say they sent some troops to Afghanistan and this or that. And they did. They stayed a little back, off the front lines."

I was asked in a job interview yesterday what my favorite book genres are. So I figure I’ll talk about that here, too! I read a lot of literary fiction, science fiction, and fantasy, as well as ecological nonfiction & general science and history.

(The interview was at a local library. 😉)

Rax, which was a roast-beef-sandwich chain until I think the late 1980s/early 90s. I only really remember the milkshakes, and specifically the blueberry - because the shakes were super thick & whole blueberries would get stuck in the straw. But *gooood looord* they were delicious.

If there's one empirical insight I'd want everyone to understand about American politics, it's this:

America's problems are solved problems. Just not here.

What would change if the US simply matched the average of 31 peer democracies? Not Denmark or Norway. Just the middle of the pack. 🧵

L O L.

Um. Yeah. I’m in western Pennsylvania. The nearest movie theater to me is *four towns* away. The last movie I went to see I had to drive into Pittsburgh, which is almost an hour away. The one before that I drove over an hour because it was limited theatrical release.
