I’m extremely jazzed to be officially working on this book.

Although it’s history first and foremost, I’d love to hear from more folks in fungal biology about their exciting new findings, so please reach out!

I reviewed MORE AND MORE AND MORE which argues that there’s no historical precedent for an “energy transition”; instead, we see symbiotic linkages between wood, coal, oil, and now renewables. I’m convinced. But the book’s analysis of capitalism falls short @thebaffler.com Link ⬇️

This is Liam Ramos. The five year old that ICE took from a Minneapolis school and sent BY HIMSELF WITHOUT HIS FAMILY to a detention facility in Texas. There are monsters among us and they are wearing masks, carrying guns, and work for the US government.

🚨HOLY CRAP. An ICE whistleblower just revealed a secret memo authorizing ICE officers to break into homes without a judicial warrant, which DHS's own legal training materials say is unconstitutional!

ICE then hid the memo from the public, passing it along by word of mouth and private conversation.

Today Dallas County declared Tommy Lee Walker innocent of a 1953 murder for which he was wrongfully executed 70 years ago. Arrested at 19, executed within 3 years. A life stolen. Justice much delayed. Awed by the Walker family's persistence. So proud of this @innocenceproject team.
BREAKING: 70 years after his wrongful execution, Tommy Lee Walker is declared innocent.

“The court’s declaration today provides some semblance of belated justice to Mr. Walker’s legacy, and to his son, our client Edward Smith,” said Chris Fabricant. https://bit.ly/3LVoOKA

This is the most astonishing graph of what the Trump regime has done to US science. They have destroyed the federal science workforce across the board. The negative impacts on Americans will be felt for generations, and the US might never be the same again.

Nobody should doubt present federal govt's intention to co-opt the National Climate Assessment. Even Project 2025 prognosticated a "whole-of-government assessment and consolidation of science" (p. 371). Documents produced from EDF's lawsuit show just how much planning has already occurred:
DOE sees bigger role for climate contrarians, records show
A small team of researchers who dispute mainstream climate science may play an outsize role in the next National Climate Assessment.

Photo by Pierre Lavie. Yes this is me. And I threw my Leica. It landed on the bass plate with hardly a scratch. Another Photographer grabbed it along with my phone and I was able to track him later. I was held face down tear gas deployed right in front of me and pepper sprayed directly into the eye.

After all, how can U.S. scholars do research in the face of skeletal support, few jobs, and disappearing job protections (on top of many life stressors)? It’s very very hard to get a publication out the door in this country’s academy.

It’s quietly very funny to me when another paper scoops a major piece of Amazon news, not like… the paper owned by the Amazon guy
Exclusive: Amazon is turning to an Arizona mine that last year became the first new source of U.S. copper in more than a decade to meet its data centers’ ravenous appetite for the metal.
Amazon Is Buying America’s First New Copper Output in More Than a Decade
The copper, which is being produced in Arizona by Rio Tinto with bacteria and acid, will be used for data-center construction.

America is now at the heavily armed secret police doing warrantless door-to-door house raids in search of undesirable ethnicities and/or political dissenters stage. The difference from well known historical cases is down to scale.
A video of ICE agents conducting door-to-door searches today in Minneapolis

The homeowner requests a warrant repeatedly, is told they don't require one, then is told they're getting it, then the agents storm in anyway

They also point a taser at her to try and disrupt filming
