This entire grift relies on convincing people that they don't know how to do the things they have always known how to do, and ironically, if it works, we will, in a very short amount of time, forget how to do all the things we have always known how to do.

Sanders: Let’s be clear… If this vote succeeds, over 20 million Americans are going to see at least a doubling in their premiums… if resolution is passed tonight, we are on a path way to throw 15 million Americans off of medicaid and the affordable care act, 15 million.

Senators on the brink of retirement who lived full, wealthy lives and never feared the loss of their own healthcare voting for their constituents to die from their inability to afford the same is treasonous

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

Centrist/Moderate is great branding because it implies reasonableness but there's nothing reasonable about stubbornly clinging to pro-business and pro-upper class politics when the country is falling apart. This is an ideology like any other, and it's a bad one
While progressives often get accused of undermining the Democratic Party, the evidence shows that it’s the moderate wing that most often violates the “Vote Blue No Matter Who” principle.

my modest disagreement is that i think it is important to signal virtue even if, privately, you are a piece of shit. performing decency is an important part of maintaining the norm that decency is part of a well ordered society.
you are SUPPOSED to signal virtue. The actual argument, such as it exists, is that people are signaling virtue while not actually being virtuous. But you are supposed to signal virtue and BE VIRTUOUS.
Really was one of the dumbest and most harmful things possible for “virtue signaling” to become some kind of epithet. Sending externally visible signals that you are engaging in pro-social behavior is normal, natural, and good, it’s how society works. Other people can’t read your fucking mind.

PSA: There’s a difference between wearing a mask or respirator & wearing a gaiter or face covering to disguise identity. It’s important to discern & communicate this nuance because if you don’t, you might encourage elected officials to ban masks for everyone, which would be a public health disaster.

There's an idea emerging among centrist Dems that Zohran won because of short form video or podcasting and I'm sorry but that's just not it
Zohran did not win because of TikTok and podcasts
His victory was the culmination of years of organizing and a platform that resonated with hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers.

An exciting legal precedent was just set in BC 🎉

The BC Human Rights Tribunal decision found for the first time in Canada that the failure to allow for remote work for an immunocompromised employee was discrimination on the ground of disability

Covid is a social justice issue.

Respirators cost money.
HEPA filters cost money.
Tests cost money.
Vaccines cost money.
Paid time off is rare.
Affordable child care is non existent

Covid disproportionately impacts those who are already the most marginalized

Mask up & protect your community

“This bill effectively discourages ALL masking - during an airborne pandemic and with another potential pandemic looming due to continued spread of H5N1. It WILL cost lives”

Bringing back an old article in light of the No Kings protester who was arrested for masking:
North Carolina Passes HB 237 and Bans Medical Masks in Public
This discriminatory and ableist bill puts lives at risk and further isolates vulnerable people from society. It's pandering to anti-maskers who seek to punish disabled and high risk individuals.

Awful! Everyone has a right to wear a mask!

Masks are a critical public health tool that help protect people from COVID. Masks also help protect against other contagious diseases, wildfire smoke, pollution, allergens, and other health concerns.

Please stop saying ICE agents are “wearing masks”

They’re wearing face coverings. Gaitors.

The anti-mask rhetoric has caused untold harm to disabled people.

Mask bans have already been enacted in many places.

We must fight for our right to continue wearing medical masks & respirators.

Aside from the fact that anyone can get seriously ill from COVID, a key point they are deliberately hiding when removing access is that COVID vaccines reduce transmission. People choose to get vaccinated to protect other people. It is wrong and harmful to take that choice away.

There’s something particularly cruel about restricting access to COVID vaccines in a country that doesn’t provide universal healthcare to its citizens.

Where Long Covid could quickly bankrupt you.

Healthcare should be a basic human right (and that includes vaccinations)
