This is how you do it.
To all the young people in New York and across our country who count on gender-affirming care:

I won't let this administration come for you, your doctors, or your lifesaving health care.

Your health care is still legal and protected.

I'll always fight for you.

Moreso than his great movies, what's hardest for me this morning is just how good a person Rob Reiner was. A true mensch in a world that so desperately needs more.

Steve isn’t here anymore, but he always posted this picture on Hanukkah so I thought we could carry on his tradition and remember him.
Happy Hanukkah to our friends who celebrate. Rachel Posner, a rabbi’s wife in Kiel, Germany, took this photograph in 1931 -- a potent reminder that fascism must be fought in every generation, even if it's wrapped in an American flag and a red hat.

I understand that a lot of folks have been misled by fear-mongering and powerful regressive voices but it’s still astonishing to me that so many have fallen for the idea that oppressively policing other people’s gender identity and expression could in any way be part of an enlightened future.

A Democrat hasn’t been elected Mayor of Miami in nearly 30 years. VP Harris beat Trump in Miami by just one point last year. Tonight, Eileen Higgins became the first Democrat to win in three decades and won by 19 points. This is a very, very bad sign for the GOP.

Once, during a storm, an older gentleman knocked on my Cuban godmother’s door and after some pantomime because neither spoke much English, she determined he needed eggs. She gave him the last of what she had even though she was on a fixed income. 1/6

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has proposed disastrous cuts to our city's libraries while setting aside $5M for a ShotSpotter replacement. As library associate Sara Heymann told me, “Libraries embody everything we need to fight back against fascism.” My piece on what’s at stake and how to fight back:
You Can’t Fight Fascism While Defunding Libraries

This is profoundly irresponsible by AGSulzberger’s NYT, @by-cjewett.bsky.social +eds.

The normalization, “view-from-nowhere”, “born-yesterday”, stenography, “both-sides”, irresponsible headline are disgraceful.
THE story is the CDC&FDA are being destroyed by antiscience & Americans will die.

Finished watching Pee-wee As Himself tonight, the two-part doc about Paul Ruebens' creative life. Profoundly moving to me 'cause Pee-wee's Playhouse, that Saturday morning run from 86-90, is still the best 5-years I ever spent in a makerspace. #identity #creativity

Columbia and Northwestern are the academic homes to the most prestigious journalism schools in the country and they are the two universities that caved to the Trump administration’s extortion demands that are directly connected to the First Amendment. Just gonna sit with that for a while.

Have spoken/taught at Northwestern many times; have many good friends there; always been an admirer and fan. Multiple ties especially with Medill School. Will never forget commencement ceremony there, 19 years ago.

Not an admirer or fan of this.

A thing about rewatching The Wire is you can see why the actors whose careers took off after it succeeded, but you can also see a couple of dozen GREAT performances from people who got zero bump from it. Some of them are local Baltimore actors, but a lot of it is just the dumb nature of the biz.
