Voorstraat in Utrecht: a true fietsstraat where bikes come first and cars are guests. It’s not just safer and more relaxed to cycle - the whole street benefits. Outdoor cafés, quieter homes, and a vibrant public space. When you design for people, cities flourish.

With a “WOW!,” President Trump posts a claim about DOGE and “royalties linked to Obamacare” that originated on a satirical website. That site’s own About section reads: “Everything on this website is fiction… If you believe that it is real, you should have your head examined.”

for helping debunk some fire forensics myths
My latest for @theappeal.org:

James Carver spent 36 years in prison after he was convicted of setting one of the deadliest fires in #Massachusetts history. But after reviewing new scientific evidence, a judge set him free.

“They took my life away for nothing,” Carver said.

This video is one of my absolute favorites. I'm pointing this out not to diminish the cyclists in chicago (who are great) but these are likely learned tactics from each other (which is ALSO good). Sometimes I think some of the cynicism on here is b/c people aren't seeing the positive push backs

An Austrian adaptation of the Barcelona Superblock, Vienna is putting the finishing touches on its first Supergrätzl ("Super neighbourhood") in the tenth district, where through traffic is filtered out to regenerate an intersection into a liveable, climate-adapted, pedestrian-friendly public space.🧵

It's a custom-made mask fitted for a software engineer in northern Virginia who suffered third-degree burns on her face when the Tesla Model Y she was in crashed and caught on fire. A heroic crowd of bystanders could not open the doors

crazy how much this looks like my familys computer den in the mid 90s
we used to build household shrines to Going On The Computer and it's no coincidence that as we abandoned these we started straying further from god's light

Knowing it needed to adapt to survive the challenges of the 21st century, Alkmaar’s main shopping street of De Laat has undergone an extraordinary revitalisation; engaging the community in a reimagining process that introduced lush vegetation, water features, pedestrian priority, and ample seating.🧵

In recent years, the historic street was hampered by heavy vacancy and a monolithic, heat-intensive, heavily-paved streetscape. By 2021, weekend foot traffic had plummeted from 21,500 one decade earlier to just 7,900. Its limited permeability and aging drainage system made it vulnerable to flooding.
