This has taken up full-time residence in my brain since I saw it. In the 2018 Taron Egerton Robin Hood, he gets a literal “Draft Notice”… to fight in the Third Crusade. The filmmakers genuinely think it was called “the Third Crusade” at the time (and they had "Draft Notices").

This is a prime example of what I call the "Ken Loach effect." The working-class everyman in Loach's films is unambiguously left-wing and able to give a speech on Marxist ideology off the cuff. This is because the only working-class people Loach has ever met were at SWP rallies.

Are people not concerned that the obsessive focus on suicide, particularly when combined with anecdotal evidence and oversimplified causal links—as seen in comments and articles like this—skirts rather close to breaching the guidelines set out by organisations such as @samaritans.bsky.social?
For all the pathetic attempts to "legitimise" this week's Supreme Court decision, this is, at the end of the day, the outcome. It's the outcome of relentless hate and hostility aimed at trans and non-binary individuals. This is why showing support is so important.

I can't say this firmly enough: if you think 'the UK should spend more on defence so it can play a part in the defence of Europe' is analagous to...what, the British empire or an opportunity to air your grief about leaving the EU, you are a child who needs to grow up.
We can't reshape the borders of a continent that we voted to leave. That's the "real world".
Just because every political correspondent says the same thing doesn't make it right.
