RIP Shunsaku Tamiya, age 90, the chairman of legendary modelmaker Tamiya. He didn't found the company, but started working there in 1958, just four years after its founding, and helped it shift from its original line of wooden models into the plastic kits it is so well known for today.

Always looked the part, wherever I parked it, which is either a very good or very bad thing in a car.

Throwback to childhood, sitting atop my parents gate, guessing whether that passing 3 series was a 318 or a 325 based on outside specs.
Every penny saved was duly spent on car magazines, and I especially loved those with odd foreign cars (Mahindra comes to mind).

🧵In the late-90s I got obsessed with cars. Not Ferraris and Porsches, ALL cars currently in production in Britain. I'd buy What Car magazine and I used to carry around a copy of Parkers guide. I dreamed of presenting Top Gear.
