This is such an important point.

Also: pangolins are the perfect animal. I love them so much I almost can’t stand it.
Despite the current administration, it’s important to remember that there are still many dedicated people in the federal government who are doing good things, including trying to save the pangolin.
The world's most trafficked mammal is the pangolin. US officials say it's an endangered species
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is proposing added protections for seven species of pangolin under the Endangered Species Act.

Science is (ideally) the careful collection and documentation of observations, and an honest, ongoing debate about what those observations most likely mean.

Lab coats optional.

Happy International Women's Day! Despite the efforts, while much more women enter scientific fields, due to numerous factors, few manage to remain in the field or secure senior positions. Support your coworkers, call out harmful systemic behaviour. 😘

I really didn’t want this to be true. But it is. HHMI funding is all private. There is no good reason for this program to be pulled.
If anyone has the resources to resist, its HHMI. Ending this program with no notice and literally scrubbing evidence it ever existed from the website is shocking and dosappointing

We’d all love for climate science to be apolitical. But it’s not—and can’t be.

This book explains why. Eye-opening and highly recommended!

One of my biggest pet peeves is the phrase "dig for fossils." Fossils really need to be on or at the surface to be found, and that means that what we have found is a teeeeeeeeeny little portion of what's out there. Isn't that exciting?

Scientists Think the World's Oldest Dinosaur Fossils May Still Be Awaiting Discovery
We just have to find them... and that might be a problem.

This feels important.
Just in case anybody has doubts about what "Make America Healthy Again" really means, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. filed a trademark request to use the slogan to market supplements, essential oils & cryptocurrency. Scammity scam-scam scamming scammer. www.washingtonpost.com/health/2025/...
RFK Jr. sought to trademark MAHA for vaccine marketing, transferred to ally
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. transferred ownership of the trademark application in December and its abbreviation — MAHA — to an LLC managed by Del Bigtree.

Keep this place The Good Place!
Bad actors are now working hard to turn BlueSky into another Twitter/X cesspool. Don't let them!
Beware--there are more and more of these inauthentic accounts flooding to BlueSky now. They pose as climate doomers but are actually doing the work of polluters by attacking climate advocates and dividing the climate advocacy community. Block and report them when you encounter them:

I say this with love to my friends in science who don’t know what to do right now: think about kids playing soccer.

We can all just chase the ball & try to kick it at the same time. (It may even go in the direction we want it to!)

But we can play better, together, if we know our positions.
