I do research for movies and archive movies and write books and screenplays but mostly I just cry a lot. SWERFs and TERFs fuck off.
My resolution for this year was to Get Somewhere with my writing, which has meant more queries that are more focused and subsequently way more emotionally taxing rejections.

Open letter to our Senators:

Gentlemen, Ladies, we don't really care about ICE not getting even more funding. We don't care about more "training" and more rules they won't follow.

We want ICE de-funded. Dismantled. Gone. Driven out of our cities.

THE HAWK: A Slow River Novel

A sex worker with a troubled past and a lieutenant to the most notorious gang in the region fall for each other in the dying days of the west. Do they choose their found families or forge a new path together?

Just learned about #questpit today! And it was two days ago. That’s not ideal. Welp save it for next time anyway.

This but it’s being a novelist.
The notion that, in order to have even a shot at a filmmaking career, I need to build and maintain a massive tiktok channel is so deeply depressing.

A fun fact is I had one, ONE film school professor who taught us this, rather than the racist made up malarkey. We watched Oscar Mischaux instead of Griffith, and I was a big fan.
DW Griffith directed BIRTH OF A NATION (1915), a virulently racist film (and neither his first nor his last one of those) that saw racist violence follow wherever it was screened.

So, naturally, there are film bros and gals who think we should "ignore the racism" and keep it in the canon.

I forgot I had this thing but tbh this is as good as any other place to post that we’re moving back to the US. The ship is obviously going down but if I can sit in a lifeboat alone or swim back and maybe bail out a boat with my family on it, I know which I’m opting for.

We're doing a 'freedom to read' event and Harry Potter was on the list of suggested books to read, and I've been loudly advocating for people not to. Read a book not by a hateful bigot. Please.
The fact that I still see ANYONE, but especially gay book people, talk about Harry Potter or any of Joanne’s stuff in bookish places still baffles me. I understand personal connections to stories. Enjoy them on your own if you still can. Don’t give her public promotion though. Pretty basic. #BookSky

Do you know why a president would do all the most evil and heinous shit via Executive Order? Because his party can't easily make it law. And if they can't make it law, they can't make it last.

Don't let anyone make you feel like this is The End. Do not let them demoralize you. Live to see them die.

I also had a schmuck on Letterboxd say I had the worst taste in movies he had ever seen when I said the Eggers Nosferatu movie wasn't good, and honestly? I now have a goal: have the taste in movies that make neckbeards on the internet mad.

Related: I don't understand why every major streamer does not have a "New" tab on its homepage with every recent original addition listed in order from newest to, say, a month ago. These algorithm-obsessed companies are still failing their subscribers on the most basic level of customer service.
I'm seeing a lot of posts expressing shock that a prestigey new film adaptation of August Wilson's The Piano Lesson just quietly went up on Netflix, and it's a good reminder that awards-buzz hype and commentary remains a very specific bubble that never reaches a huge number of movie lovers.

There's something I need people to understand.

The studio that made this released some numbers. They had to produce 85 minutes of footage to find 15 usable seconds for this ad.

The machine that creates moving images out of nothing has a failure rate of 340:1 and the best 15 seconds... is this.
Coca-Cola’s newest Christmas commercial was made using AI.

Got rejected by another agent ~*~*ooh yeah my self-esteem is doing great~*~*

I'm wondering at what point I just #selfpublish and move on with my life. I have two nice smutty #historical #fiction books and I can't get anybody to consider them. But self publishing kinda feels like giving up.

I want to take a moment to thank my boss for having sub-10 minute meetings as policy, and giving us a heads up on the topic of the meeting in advance. Dude knows how to run shit.
