Oof. Reached the end of Act I in Expedition 33. A screenshot I took a little before, with Gustave in his chic suit and hat, looking out over an eerie landscape.

Pike's cabin has a little easter egg in it I'd never known about! A picture of him and April in TOS-era uniforms. Presumably when Pike took command over from April. It's a fun little background thing but also makes me laugh. #StarTrek from TrekCentral.

Wow. This is one of the reasons I’m excited about getting this!
The current big drama in the increasingly stupid western comic book world: DC released cult classic title Warlord on a (more expensive) paperstock that matches original newsprint, giving a more accurate coloring. Collectors are review bombing in outrage because they think glossy = more expensive.

Well it arrived by New Year’s, I guess. It’s fun! I tend to like my Christmas songs mopier. 🤣 But this one can join Cher’s for boppy Christmas music.

Share a great female villain!

A beautiful jift begins to appear! But who could it feature?

If you had the villain of your fantasy book showing off the new marble armrests for his vanity project while the villagers starved and died around him it'd be too on the nose. To cartoonish for a children's book. Reality doesn't play by the rules of fiction, though.

People can like things and NOT form a cult around them. Maybe it'd be better if that was the case? Where we can just enjoy a story and not make it our personality? Avatar has plenty to critique. Avatar has a lot to love. Which is why I find the cultural impact thing so dreadfully boring.
The huge box office is what makes it such a paradox. Everyone sees them, and then what? No “May the Force be with you,” no Quidditch, no MCU-like fan theorizing. Compared to the other franchises of its scale, it has weirdly little hold over the popular imagination. I repeat: “Jake Sully.”

Only one more episode to go of Stranger Things. I hope they stick the landing. I've found this season involving, as it relies on all the good character work throughout the series. The central mystery is.. whatever. But good characters can pull you through. Also really liked Holly's role this season!

A few pre-Christmas treats for myself. I’ve been wanting to read some Gene Wolf and these were a great deal. Excited to get the steelbook of Bugonia. Really loved that movie. Now where’s my 4K Poor Things?!?

I didn’t like Love & Thunder. But I loved the Aaron / Dauterman Thor run that introduced The Mighty Thor into the comics. I don’t buy many 1/6 figures anymore and I missed this one. It shot up in price. But I found a Facebook seller who would sell below the retail! She’s like-new and amazing.

The last Christmas-y movie we watched yesterday was Go (1999.) One of the most criminally underrated comedies of the 90s. I've seen in over 10 times, and each time I find it so incredibly entertaining. I had to write more on this than would fit on Bsky so: letterboxd.com/jonwesleyhuf... #FilmSky
A ★★★★★ review of Go (1999)
I saw GO when it came out, and I've seen it 10 times or more since, once with a good decade in between. It remains, to me, one of the most critically underrated gems of a movie. There's an embarrassme...

Tattooed muscle bear Viking Santa in red leather plays John McClane. Stars Beverly D'Angelo in a wonderfully bitchy turn as a rich family matriarch. The novelty of Santa kicking ass wears off before the movie ends, but overall it's a fun ride.

Yesterday I watched some Christmas-y movies. I didn't have a lot in the way of expectations of There's Something in the Barn, but the cast has good comedic chops, and it helps that the American family in Norway are definitely the villains of the piece. A lot of fun! #MovieSky

I like to draw. I think I'm decent at it. But I have never really gotten over the "UGH, everyone is better than me" thing when I see amazing art. I don't get that with books and writing. I get inspired, and it makes me want to be a better writer. But with art, I never got that confidence.

The opening model flyover and then transition to the streets in The Muppet Christmas Carol is beautiful I get such a thrill every time.
