“The whole problem can be stated quite simply by asking, 'Is there a meaning to music?' My answer would be, 'Yes.' And 'Can you state in so many words what the meaning is?' My answer to that would be, 'No'.”

“We are not going cold, obviously. We are in 2025 now.”

Ha, yes, definitely annoyed!
Carbon trading won’t solve global warming
SHARJAH:  (United Arab Emirates): Global warming is real as evidenced by the increasing intensity and frequency of climate disasters and the solution is to stop the pollution and go big on renewables, according to award-winning science writer and author, Gaia Vince.

Is there anything not available at a library? Support your local library.
We are launching a new Winter Coat Swap at Orkney Library & Archive. If you have any winter coats you no longer need we'd be delighted to have them.
We're looking for coats to fit any age and size, adult or child, as long as they are in good, clean condition ready for wearing. 🧥 #GreenLibraries

It was a very interesting time.
All empires fell except the Egyptians.
Very pleased to learn that "After 1177 BC: The Survival of Civilizations" has been chosen to receive a Biblical Archaeology Society 2025 Publication Award for "Best Popular Book on Archaeology" (for books published during 2023 and 2024).

How to design an arch in one easy to understand diagram.
A pointed arch is made of two intersecting circles, so it's described as 2-centred. It's the basis of much if not most Gothic architecture. A 4-centred arch blends together arcs of four circles as shown (rather badly) below. The centres of the four circles are labelled; A, B (small), C and D (big)🐭

Urghh... it's as bad as I hoped it wasn't - these really are 'the first', 'the earliest', 'the only'.

In terms of gold cash price they're not worth a huge amount, maybe £60k, if that - but in historical value, they're utterly priceless.

So awful.😔

Ever wonder why history repeats? Here's a partial answer:
Perhaps it repeats because we keep wanting then installing the same form of government over and over, but it doesn't work, consequently it keeps breaking.
You want a hierarchical form of governance? Fine.
But prepare for disappointment.

Giving back to the land that gives us so much.
As a break from insanity that is archaeology, I spent the morning helping plant 1000 fritillary bulbs in Verulamium park - part of a superb project to make River Ver a bit more healthy & a bit less floody...

Really lovely bunch of folks. 😊

I've even got me own hi-viz & found a bit of Roman tile! 🤣

Students & researchers have a tough time keeping the names of Roman emperors and elites straight. But we do have a database to help name and number each. It is called the Prospographia Imperii Romani (=PIR) and has 15061 persons, of which 1932 are women. Please use the database! pir.bbaw.de#/search

I'm opening it up here now - all items incl. postage (UK only, sadly) & gift packaging. I can send things within a week, usually faster.

Anyway, if there's anything you fancy, message/email me! 😊
