First time ever I had a boss over at my place. Instead of a crusty old Boomer, he's a Zoomer with a New Edge Mustang...my kids treated him like a superhero. Especially since my daughter loves Mustangs.

I spent the last month teaching myself industrial plumbing so I could better explain what my department needed and help others understand our existing, heavily flawed system. I am happy to report that management listened and we're getting an even better system than what I asked for.

So my boss told the owner that although he'd normally want the position, he'd still be asking for my advice anyway and would rather have my experience. I also am apparently better at planning ahead and organizing.

The asking my advice part melted my cold, bitter heart.
Me- I am going to keep a low profile and just do my job.

Boss- After last night I recommended you for supervisor.

I am in charge tonight and my problem manager refuses to interact with me. It's so peaceful and so much is getting done.

I do find ice storms to be pretty...but they are so dang dangerous. Luckily my crew who lives closer got in.

I was so tired and frustrated that I misjudged a wire and electrocuted myself while standing in water. Once I got over the shock, and to calm my coworkers, I reminded them you can't spell electrocute without cute and made a heart.

Coworker- "I hated history class, but if you ever get back into teaching, I want to be in your class."

We had some down time while waiting for a system to come back on line and they got me started on a tangent about pirate history.

Literally everything that could malfunction at the factory did because Santa brought a stocking full of ****. That said I repaired a hose nozzle with a paperclip and figured out that the contractors used improper settings on our water system.

I don't know what time my crew is getting out tomorrow morning, so we did presents this morning. Seeing my wife and kids surprised and happy with what I got them made every hour worth it.

My coworkers and I are stuck in the late 90s-early 2000s.

Boss- You need a raise.

Me- *fixing a machine with my own tools* Why?

It's crazy working for a company that values its people's experience and knowledge. I definitely could nitpick, but I genuinely love my job.

Oh yay, 17th century, I feel briefly relevant. Whether @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social will turn a blind eye to piracy if not potentially collude with said pirates like previous mayors remains to be seen.

I bought a pair of slip on Sketchers at Tractor Supply, I am a riding mower away from making a stupid comment about the weather.

And yes, they are very comfortable.

We had mandatory overtime. My shift is short staffed. We had some technical difficulties. It became apparent our shift was going to be a lot longer. As 2nd in charge, I looked at my boss and suggested we send the rest of the staff home to enjoy their day off and we'd finish it off. We did.

My family in the 90s was securely Middle Class after my grandparents were dirt poor in the Great Depression...we had land. After taking a new job, my family now is securely Middle Class after being dirt poor in the Great Recession...I'm looking at 90s sports cars, because we can only rent./

My daughter wants unicorns and engine parts for Christmas...like I always questioned pink "masculine" things, but she is literally the person who'd want them. She's totally driving into high school in the most "girly" clothes but with a pink muscle car or mud covered truck.

If RFK Jr wasn't rich, he'd be a "normal" serial killer who targets children. There is no other explanation for his behavior.
I'm still having trouble containing my rage about this. Treating African children as disposable toys in a desperate effort to bolster RFK Jr.'s anti-vax conspiracism. Expanding the moral stain on our nation from the USAID cuts. www.theguardian.com/society/2025...

Always get more out of a job than a paycheck, whether it be something you love doing, a gym that pays you to be there, or coworkers that are genuinely fun to hang out with. I realize on paper I should probably hate my new job, but I genuinely enjoy spending time with my crew, all of them.
