I think the best way I can describe what counterinsurgency is as the techniques used to destroy the social fabric of a people. It kills a population’s capacity and will to function independently from the imperialist system. The result is behavior which is used to justify ever escalating force

Minnesota National Guard members have arrived at a federal building and were directed to distribute donuts, coffee, and hot chocolate to anti-ICE protesters. Guard members were issued reflective vests so they would not be mistaken for federal agents.

I have absolutely no qualms with killing these people if it’s the most functional and least cruel course of action, but it’s just not. If we can’t break out of the binary of either killing them or punishing them with lifetime imprisonment we haven’t solved the root issue
